About this deal

All the lights chosen have a minimum output of a claimed 1,500 lumens, but some are much brighter. Generally, more lumens equates to a higher price. Overall, the very clever Rigel Max offers decent performance considering how small it is. It hasn't got the best beam on the market, but it is still very effective for riding on a range of roads and byways. Verdict We then wanted to get a bit more specific and only look at Moon products that are listed in the Lights category. With this type of light, when pointed down so as not to blind anyone, you're not actually seeing the entire road ahead of you, you're seeing a small circle determined by whatever your front wheel is pointing at at that particular instant. Perfect if all the roads you ride on are straight as an arrow. Additionally, unless you point it down and in doing so create a hotspot that will further reduce your night vision, half of the output is blazed away uselessly, except that it annoys traffic. There's a lot of sense in using one of the StVzO-compliant bike lights.

The light has an IPX7 rating. It's withstood very heavy showers, prolonged rain and bike washes and remained completely unaffected. Switch Where does it say in my post that I point it down? I was a little sceptical of the 120-lumen default setting – yes, it's good enough for shared use town paths perhaps, and useful for reading road signs, rummaging in panniers and tending to a mechanical, but around town I felt more comfortable with the 200-lumen Steady Flash. This is then committed to the light's memory. This allows you to tailor the light to suit your environment. To restore the factory preset you simply remove the battery, depress the power button for a second or two, and then reassemble. The twin button setup doesn’t work logically and the matrix display isn’t easy to decipher when shifting between modes and using the VLS or IBF. It does display the remaining battery charge clearly, though. It's not perfect for road use where a wider, flatter beam is better to reduce the chances of dazzling oncoming traffic, but angled down I didn't seem to irritate anyone while still getting the light shining up the road. You need to have a bit of common sense and courtesy with the lumen output too.
