About this deal

The big design difference between it and its siblings is that it has two blade-like feet that take up less desk space rather than a pedestal. The positive is that these are easy to move around and take up less space; the downside is that we found there’s less room to place a soundbar under it. Precious few TVs at the OLED807’s price point carry a 70W audio system – never mind a 70W audio system with a dedicated bass speaker. It’s hardly surprising, then, to find that this Philips model sounds far better than the vast majority of other TVs in its class, despite the remarkable thinness that characterises much of its bodywork. The Sony A80L is the surprise of the year so far. It's based on 'traditional' OLED technology (i.e. it's not a QD-OLED or MLA model) so we broadly thought we knew what to expect, but it stunned us during our extensive test by offering a picture performance with a near-perfect balance of the spectacular and the subtle. It sounds good by TV standards, too, and the feature set will be strong enough for all but the most hardcore of gamers. It really brings movies to life in dim viewing rooms and is bright enough to also make daytime viewing of normal TV programs a joy

The 6707 only comes in one size: 39 inches. There's no Ambilight system and smarts are provided by Android TV 10 rather than Android TV 11. Still, this could be a good option for a guest room or an office... if the price is right. Most of Philips' 2022 OLED and MiniLED TVs feature a new and improved four-sided Ambilight system that promises "increased colour detail and accuracy for a totally immersive viewing experience". Smart duties are handled by the latest Android 11 TV OS with both Google Assistant built-in – via push to talk on the remote – and Works with Alexa compatibility.The Philips OLED807 not only improves markedly on the already good picture quality of its predecessor, but also features presets that are much more effective right out of the box, making it much easier to use. Though that doesn’t mean you won’t still have to spend at least a little time delving into its intimidatingly huge setup menus.

This need to change the default motion processing mode brings us to the fact that while the OLED807 is better out of the box than its predecessor, you should still get involved with its intimidatingly convoluted picture set up menus if you want to make sure you get the absolute best picture results. As well as the motion adjustments, all noise reduction should be turned off for the vast majority of native 4K and premium quality HD sources, for instance.

The What Hi-Fi?team has more than 100 years experience of reviewing, testing and writing about consumer electronics. While the sound doesn’t stretch into the room a huge amount, there’s a good degree of width and height to the audio, making for an atmospheric presentation that manages to convey the openness of the stormy street outside Bill and Georgie’s house in It, and the echoey storm drain where Pennywise makes his first, disturbing appearance. Details are still thin on the ground, but we look forward to testing the system later in the year. Any improvement on this already-excellent feature is surely welcome. Android TV 11 and DTS Play-Fi Philips has got its Game preset input lag time down for the OLED807 to 15.1ms with 1080p/60Hz feeds. That’s still 5ms or so higher than the fastest results we’ve seen this year, but you’d have to be a more competitive gamer than us for 5ms to make a serious difference to your performance.
