Photographer Gregory Crewdson's TWILIGHT series, begun in 1998 and completed in 2002, consists of forty photographs created as elaborately staged, large-scale tableaux that explore the domestic landscape and its relationship to an artificially heightened natrual world. The video above is great and well worth a look - very insighful and the work that goes on to produce the imagery!

Reaching the 25th anniversary has been a time of reflection, particularly looking through old snapshots and ephemera in support of the Avant Arte collaboration . Teaching, he says, is ideal for an artist because he gets to learn what the next generation are doing, what they're reading, what they're listening to, and to talk about form and composition. Crewdson stages these photographs, constructing fragmented narratives evoking fantasy, magic and the supernatural, pulling from cinematic techniques and film genre to infuse his pictures with both familiarity and mystery.Suburbia sits at the boundary between the natural world and the city; ambiguous, un-modern objects and cars shirk straightforward associations; windows and thresholds become focal points as portals between public and private space; paranormal (or seemingly so) occurrences soften the edges of reality; the 'magic hour' of twilight marries natural and artificial illumination with a promise of darkness to come. That said , if you love photography in all its shape and form and love to ponder on the not so obvious subtext of emotive imagery then this book is for you.

The story went that the young Crewdson would secretly listen in on his father's patients as they underwent analysis.
