About this deal

Originally, when a screen test was being made, producers wanted Buzz to be voiced by Billy Crystal, and used audio from the film When Harry Met Sally.... He turned the role down, and after seeing the first film, he said that turning it down was "the biggest mistake of his career". A running gag in the series involves XR being constantly blown up, but this proves to be little more than an inconvenience rather than a serious problem.

High Repairability: XR was originally reactivated and prepped by the LGMs as Buzz's new partner after they saw the space ranger brooding over the loss of his last partner, Warp Darkmatter. The Little Green Men "solved" the problem by arranging for Buzz to have a new partner that was not only artificial (and therefore was never alive and thus also cannot be "killed"), but also an extremely repairable robotic unit, regardless of how much damage XR sustains in battle. And true enough, the LGMs demonstrated to Buzz the robot's amendable construction by first blasting XR apart with weaponry and crushing what was left of his body with heavy industrial equipment, only to completely repair XR immediately afterwards and in record time. XR himself has been known to conduct repairs or improvements on his own body after receiving harm or alteration from unfriendly parties, and could even control detached appendages after he was literally blasted apart by enemy fire. In an early version of Lightyear, Sox was originally going to look and act way more cat-like (according to concept art) in which he would look more true-to-the-word to real life ginger cats; in addition, he also had no collar, had yellow eyes, and his body and tail had stripes. According to storyboard artist Dean Heezen, some additional cat-like things Sox could’ve done was stretch, stand on hind legs, ambush, and itch. He would’ve also coughed up hairballs, and he also would’ve had retractable claws and actual fangs. He even had tapidum lucidum, aka Night Vision (an animal's way of seeing in the dark) whenever Buzz or if any of the Junior Zap Patrol shone a bright light on him. [1] Buzz Lightyear is a meetable character at all of the Disney Parks and Resorts, located in Tomorrowland and in Toy Story Land. He is often accompanied by the Aliens. Tim Allen reprised his role using one of his archival recordings in the 2018 Walt Disney Animation Studios film Ralph Breaks the Internet, where he repeated his famous catchphrase.

When Sox greets Buzz, he says his lines that are similar to Baymax from Big Hero 6 which are, "Hello, I am Baymax. Your personal healthcare companion". Furthermore, Sox follows alongside Mo, Izzy, and Darby in a plan to rescue Buzz who is captured by Zurg. Just as they enter, Sox detects two Buzz signals (consisting of Buzz and Zurg - the latter who is revealed to be an older version of Buzz), planning to triangulate in a plan to help the Junior Patrol to find Buzz and rescue him from Zurg. Later, Zurg crushes his own Sox who attempts to escape with Buzz, confronting him while competing in a plan for Buzz to obtain the crystal for the Armadillo's fuel. You know, the guy's supposed to be some kind of evil genius, and the best he can come up with is a ventriloquist act. What's next, evil juggling?"

XR's internal storage system contains many different items, with many of the more outlandish ones appearing to be leftovers from the time he was blasted apart by Agent Z during the theft of the Uni-Mind. Other items were likely added by XR himself for personal use, including times when he'd wish to offer said items to someone. Many are for convenience sake. The smallest group of items are Star Command Ordinance and weaponry, and a few items that even XR with his impeccable memory apparently can't remember a reason for carrying.
