And of course it was a big success, which goes to show that a safe perfume isn't always the most lucrative one. The floral is a magnolia bouquet, made sour by sharp lilac, fugitive hyacinth and fake citrus. There's also cold iris and a green accord based on shiny muguet leaf. Pressed dandelion stems, oozing green and astringent juices; grassy citrus, zesty and dry. A light, young, fresh lily note without the slightest indolic roundness. The first 20 minutes define a ‘green’ scent. Then slowly, a mellow lightly musky note creeps in. A dusty vetiver, light wood and sandal, a tiny hint of rose. Individual notes are rather indistinct, the overall composition goes from bright green to shadowed woody green. It’s quite sharp, but the dry down is mellow. Suits all ages and could be worn in summer or winter, performs well in winter as it gives you a nice warm summery feeling. Envy opens with bright fruity notes, with pineapple being most dominant. There is a hint of peach in there. Bergamot adds crisp tartness, tempering the sweetness nicely. Aggressive and mean, Envy was a success - because of its faults - and not despite them. And they are what make it so distinctive and memorable. On the other hand, what is different about Envy is - it doesn't try to smell nice. By flouting the idea that it 'should always smell good' Envy places itself firmly in the difficult - or Expressionist camp - along with some of Roudnitska's work, Sécrétions, Poison etc.

In fact, what sweetness there is, is only there to stop the tamarisk note from getting out of hand, nothing more.Our Fragrances can smell Very Similar to your favourite desired ones. However, they are never Identical, as the ingredients used in making our perfumes are totally Vegan. So, perfumes that contain animal notes such as Civet, Ambergris, Musk, Honey, Milk and Castoreum will never smell identical but somehow very similar as we recreate these notes using Vegetable derived elements. It's like green l'Eau d'issey, which is set on a base of scorched earth that clearly derives from Sinan. I don’t consider myself to be a hype man by any stretch of the imagination, which makes the next statement all the more profound. I believe Envy for Men is one of the greatest fragrances ever made. And keep in mind I’m not saying this out of nostalgia. As far as I remember, Envy was never very big in Australia. The fragrances I remember when growing up were Drakkar Noir, Usher and One Million. By the time I tried Envy for myself, it had been long discontinued. The dry down is not truly chypre-like, as I was expecting, but instead becomes a musky, slightly mossy, woody accord. The sour phase subsides, and the dry down is a more pleasant phase of Envy. Remnants of the white florals are present, primarily jasmine. Silage and longevity are moderate, and it is feminine-leaning in my opinion. Green and crisp until the end, Envy is nicely crafted fresh green scent. Missed by many, it is a pity it has been discontinued but no worries we have managed to create a great sustainable ethical vegan alternative.
