About this deal

Color: Tawny light amber (pretty much the exact same color as the Sherry Cask. They are indistinguishable. I even shone a flashlight to the liquids side by side.) There are three whisky distilleries nearby (Bunnahabhain, Ardnahoe and Caol Ila) that are well worth a visit. Tourist Information Mystery surrounds this Islay single malt scotch, as there are many who wonder which distillery is responsible for producing the whisky. There is little to no information on the distillery responsible and the only information that is available is that it is a series in The Vintage Malt Whisky Company’s portfolio. Loch Finlaggan is a place on Islay that was of great importance in western Scotland during the 13 th to 15 th centuries. Known as the Center for the Lordship of the Isles, the historic Scottish castle was home to Clan Donald; often called the Cradle of Clan Donald.

It was velvety smooth and had so much more complex flavors than the Speyside I was used to. It made Glenlivet bland. This was a fun dram because it revealed more to me throughout my week of sipping it, whereas the others plateaued. A notch or two above Aldi’s, it’s more of a “Whole Foods Light.” There is a vast frozen section and meals to-go galore for the lazy single person. Trader Joe’s was established in LA in the late sixties, and you can tell. The stores are adorned with Tiki-themed signage and bric-a-brac, which was the trendy LA style at the time.The following indicators should be taken as only a guide and not a set of hard and fast rules. Some "premium" whiskeys really are quite terrible, while some mass market products are good enough to pour into a decanter and serve to the Duke of Edinburgh. A+: A masterpiece and one of the ten best whiskeys of its type. Above five stars.

It took me only about 1 month to finish that bottle of Lagavulin, and I tried to go cheap. I got a Laphroaig 10 and Finlaggan OR. The Laphroaig 10 was very industrial diesel tasting. The Finlaggan tasted watered down. I mixed the 2 and the resulting mix was a train collision that was the worst of both combined. Finish: Long and with an interesting flavor like sweet-and-sour or Margarita mix. Fades into simple, slightly bitter, smoke and wet ashes. I wish it had a bit more sherry. It has a shy nose, but opens up well with water to reveal a wisp of general Allspice. It ends quietly. Since entry-level whisky drinkers seem to love a whisky that disappears right away (“Smooth!” being the highest compliment for some reason) I’d say it’s an excellent beginner dram. It was too wussy for me, though, so it was my least favorite.
