The allbino boyz gave the 8x32 HD top billing despite its higher than average distortion, and they really don't like distortion, so that tells you something about the high quality of the HD.

The distance between your eyes and an eyepiece while you see the entire field of vision is called eye relief. If you have glasses, this is an important spec. The finder can be modified more later. Seeing more perspective in Cassiopeia star clouds is likely where the increase for would make a difference. Also some planet near moon instances. But if not, and if eye relief is ever an issue, of the three mentioned the Swarovskis trump the other two by a few millimeters. I myself am a big fan of 8x50 or 8x56 binoculars. They provide fantastic brightness and are very comfortable to use. You can always extend the inter-barrel distance a bit more than usual and get a kind of "wide screen" view of the field (thanks to their very large exit pupil).Using an ultra-compact optical design, the Discovery WP PC series are among the smallest waterproof roof prism binoculars available on the market today. The Leica Ultravid 50 HD-Plus models provide excellent contrast and outstanding image brightness that other binoculars with larger front-lens diameters can hardly rival. I should be close. A 25mm Plossl gives 6.1 deg. I don't know of anything that needs 8 deg. 52 deg is not an expansive afov, but is sharp, and long eye relief for winter eye fog. Also my amici prism 20mm clear aperture may be an issue. Just returned from a trip to the outskirts of Warsaw to experience observation through my bino in total darkness with no lights. It was even more then I have expected. I could see details of what was on few meadows that were completly covered with darkeness, plain awesome. Also when observing during daylight, amaizing sharpeness and depth of field. I could really go for the 8x50 if it had a wider field of view. It strikes me that Swarovski have an ideal platform for a long focal length 8x50 in their EL line with a wide field of view, but I suppose I shouldn't hold my breath!I think 8x50's are nice. I've got an old Zeiss West 8x50 porro that I like a lot. Not quite as heavy as 8x56's, but with a large enough exit pupil for use in low light. Still too large and too heavy for everyday use though. So, for a finder, 60 degrees is easily doable and cheap. It would help find stuff. But the finder is mounted. You are more likely to notice the edge astigmatism when you keep the scope still. Also, Erfles have less eye relief. Hand held, holding them against your face stabilizes them. Mounted, bumping the eyepiece shakes the view. Kelners have more eye relief, more even than Plossls for the same field of view. The most effective ones have indeed been proven to work. Prior to purchasing things, do some research on best 8x50 binoculars. Here are some questions to consider.

Not many of us have used or even seen them but two that have are Hermann (post #4 above) and Altavista, who commented on it here: https://www.birdforum.net/showpost.php?p=4032574&postcount=54 The SV-50 is more than just a finder, it is like having a 50mm RFT right there on the main scope. I have good quality 70mm and 80mm finders but I have found the 50mm to be more effective, it offers a much wider field of view along with sufficient aperture for a finder. In this thread, http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=116599, there is some discussion of the Trinovid coatings, which changed throughout the lifetime of the BA and BN models, not necessarily with the model change. There is also another thread, titled "Trinovid Coatings" I think, that you might want to search out, that discusses the coating evolution. It's just too large and heavy to attract much interest from birders. I wrote about it here last spring: I’ll be quite interested to see if the new 8x50 Ultravid HD has less lateral color. I wouldn’t expect much improvement from a change in objective glass. Right now I consider the prime suspect to be the simple 4 element eyepiece used in the 8x50. But most Dobs as well as a variety of other scopes have their finder mounted at an angle. This means the finder crosshairs are not aligned with the chart cross hairs and it's more difficult to navigate the night sky. When they are aligned, it makes precise pointing much easier because I can align the cross hairs with stars I have identified on the chart and bingo, the object is centered in the FOV of the main scope. Turning in the screw causes the UX to expand in the solid building material and to knot within the cavity.
