Rand's chapters were interesting as well. But the numbness he experience is beginning to worry me. The fact that even Lews Therin thinks he is a harder man than he was is bad. The revelation about this mental illness he is suffering felt like a death blow. For so long I assumed that Lews Therin's voice in his head is the result of the taint but now things seem pretty hopeless. I thought that it could be something like that after the cleansing didn't help but knowing that it'll eventually kill him is too much. The guy deserves to live after all the sacrifices he made and have a happy little (or not so little) family with Elayne, Aviendha, Min and all the little munchkins they can give him. As for Mat, I still love his narrative voice so much and since we’ve established I love competence, it’s no surprise he has become my favorite character. His campaigning against the Seanchan, after Tuon‘s abduction turns into a rescue mission, was so rewarding as we watch his military mind(s) at work. And speaking of rewarding: seeing both Tuon‘s and Mat‘s prophecy fulfilled with that hilarious marriage was up there with my favorite moments. Birgetta being awesome as always. Why would we need Galad or Gawyn again to protect Elayne??? I just don’t know. I’m pretty sure I know who Gaidal Cain is reincarnated as *crosses fingers* that is my favorite deviant in training Olver Titles within the Wheel of Time series don't necessarily reflect a specific event or object within the books. For instance, there's still some speculation regarding the meaning of Crossroads of Twilight, and even Towers of Midnight has multiple meanings. Weiramon: Okay, so my memory of ToM is not as clear as it could be, but I do remember (I think) that we found out in it that Weiramon was, actually, a Darkfriend. Which is a tad egg-on-face for me, since I’ve been espousing since the man was introduced that he was not a Darkfriend, and that sometimes an incompetent pompous moron is just an incompetent pompous moron, when in fact he was actually a cigar. Um, or something.

Rand greets the two Defenders guarding the room, and they tell him he might want to take a guide to find Darlin, because sometimes the corridors… change. Rand, Alivia, Cadsuane, Min, Nynaeve, and a small guard of Maidens ride into Tear more or less incognito, but Rand knows that the twisting of chance that occurs around him will give him away sooner or later. He is astonished to see a great wagon loaded with machinery that whistles and steams move through the streets by itself. He thinks that Master Poel got his steamwagon to work after all, but wonders aloud how it got here. Two street urchins (Com and Doni) tell him that four (or six) of the steamwagons pulled a hundred (or fifty) wagons all the way from Cairhien to Tear, and covered over a hundred miles a day doing it. Rand pronounces it remarkable. Mat reunites with Talmanes and an even larger and better equipped Band of the Red Hand. Together they launch a campaign of guerilla warfare against the Seanchan army sent by Suroth to murder Tuon. They are found by Furyk Karede, who takes over protection of Tuon and gives Mat intelligence to destroy the Seanchan force. Before returning and assuming power in Ebou Dar, Tuon completes the marriage ceremony with Mat, making him the Prince of Ravens.

I need you to find the rest for me, Loial, or Trollocs will be able to flood into every country at once, and no one will know they’re coming until they’re in the heart of Andor or Cairhien.” Rand loses a hand to Semirhage, she tells him about his problem with Lews Therin, and because it was Semirhage, not Tuon, he didn't have the intended meeting with the Daughter of the Nine Moons Nynaeve: Well, sh*t, I continue to love Nynaeve ti al’Meara Mandragoran. She has one POV in this book, and it’s not even a full chapter, but god, is it brilliant. This is character respected, like she annoyed me here and there but never quite hated her. I did dislike her attitude toward Mat in LoC, but it’s evident from PoD onwards that she does care for him. Even if she was being obnoxious about it. I liked her arc in FoH, which I can tell is polarising for some folks, but it explored her trauma quite well. But yeah, from CoS onwards, I started loving her much more, especially during Winter's Heart, and without any hesitation, joined Rand on his mission, which seems like a suicide mission. And her affection and care for the people close to her are very much felt. But yeah, in this chapter in particular, she was quite sweet. I even liked the romantic aspects with her and Lan, it was quite cute. I do think the set-up for Lan and her relationship is terrible, but being married was the best thing that happened to Nynaeve. I loved her with her conversations here, her affection for helping Rand in his POVs, etc. Despite all her powers, at her core, she is still the Wisdom who wants to take care of her people (and loved ones). Knife of Dreams is another huge installment (1.3 days worth of audio!) which suffers the same faults as the last several WOT novels. But, if you've made it this far, perhaps that won't bug you. And while Rand is battling to get to the Seanchan empress (or so he believes), Egwene is not only kept in the White Tower but physically chastised every day. That was actually my favorite part of this book: to see her embrace the pain, refusing to be embarrassed by the punishments, planting one seed after another for a rebellion against Elaida ... it was really something!

That's right; from the time that Rand first glimpsed a shadowy figure as he marched with Tam Al'Thor down to Emond's Field for Bel Tine, only two years have passed in-world. In that time, Perrin has grown from this beefcake: Asmodean: Killed by ??? (nobody cares) in a "Oh, it's you," moment, not expected to be resurrected because of betrayal. Nynaeve and Lan finally getting a little relationship fleshing out and one of my favorite moments of the series. Way to go all Aes Sedea on your man Nynaeve. This is probably the only time I will approve of such a move.

Traveling with circus performers through Seanchan-controlled Altara, Mat Cauthon attempts to court Tuon, the Daughter of the Nine Moons, to complete their fateful prophesized marriage. Despite being surrounded by Seanchan seeking to kill her, Mat’s intended leads him on a merry chase while he wages guerrilla warfare to protect her. However, we got tons of Mat and Tuon, which is always awesome, so we will take it!!! He is reunited with his band of the Red Hand and Tuon, who although fascinated by him as a flirt, finally gets to witness the greatness that is Mat while in charge!!! He is becoming a character to truly root for! Lanfear: Shoved into the red twisted doorframe by Moiraine; apparently died. I thought that she was the mystery man who appeared to help Rand in Shadar Logoth when he was fighting Sammael; he didn't feel "him" channeling when they both used balefire, and "his" dialogue was all consistent with Lanfear. But her later reapparance as Cyndane argues against this. Enslaved to Moridin. Elayne‘s arc, who finally (!) becomes queen of Andor, mostly made me think about all the casualties. It’s truly a mystery to me how regular people, even soldiers, sacrifice their lives in a war that is ultimately about who sits on the throne, which is probably not that impactful on most of their lives – as the Seanchan occupation has proven. Fighting evil (Forsaken, shadowspawn, Darkfriends) seems a worthier cause. Galad confronts Eamon Valda, the leader of the Whitecloaks, for allegedly killing his stepmother Queen Morgase of Andor. Galad kills Valda in a duel and in the process becomes the leader of the Whitecloaks. He then decides to pledge his newfound following to the defeat of the Dark One at Tarmon Gai'don regardless of who the Whitecloaks must fight alongside.My issue with the book covers as they turned out is about the figures, who most often are just plain weird-looking in stance, and frequently fail to convey age-appropriateness for the well-established characters. His breath caught, and he stretched out a hand, brushed a finger across the heavy gold signet ring on the cord. Across the crane in flight. How had she come by this? Under the Light, how? “I recognize it,” he told her, his voice suddenly hoarse. The Golden Crane flies for Tarmon Gai’don!” Managan shouted, leaping up so fast he overturned his chair. Nonetheless, in the 11th volume of the series, Robert Jordan suddenly returned to the top form of his writing. He stopped stalling and dissembling, and the effect is almost, almost as good as in “The Shadow Rising.” There are definitely fewer loooooooong descriptions. The book reads much faster than previous volumes, which was a pleasant surprise after the last somnambulic triplets. Especially the final chapters are boredom-free (it is still Mr Jordan, of course, and so fear not! we will still be informed who’s wearing what in which scene, but blessedly with less detail).

And while it is widely accepted in the Wheel of Time community that this book is much better than the last few, I was not quite prepared for how great this book truly was until I read it. Galad, Trom, Dain Bornhald, and Jaret Byar are riding along a road in Amadicia, north of a mountain range that held the ancient mines of Aelgar. They are heading to a manor house once belonging to Ailron, which now serves as the headquarters for the Whitecloaks, who are now allied with the Seanchan. Galad plans to kill Eamon Valda because Bornhald and Byar told him that Valda assaulted and killed Morgase. Trom and Galad have both been promoted to Lord Captain because three of the high officers were killed by the Seanchan at Jeramel. The dead are walking, men die impossible deaths, and it seems as though reality itself has become unstable… My name is Nynaeve ti al’Meara Mandragoran. The message I want sent is this. My husband rides from World’s End toward Tarwin’s Gap, toward Tarmon Gai’don. Will he ride alone?”Nynaeve: She only made a tiny appearance but it was a memorable one. I think I'm finally warming to her relationship with Lan and I definitely enjoyed how things progressed for the pair in this one.
