About this deal

Now that we have made a couple of jewels each I would feel happy to be less “hands on” with the kids and potter around the kitchen whilst they create their own designs. All the Gemex crafts kits parts are interchangeable and the mould shapes are really fun which makes creating them very addictive. Plus you can experiment using different decorations… googly eyes, cooking sprinkles, glitter, coloured sand etc. If you’ve not discovered Geomag sets yet, then you’re really missing out. My boys love them, and there are LOADS to choose from. This Geomag Glitter 60 piece set is made from 100% recycled plastic and can create limitless constructions, and hours of fun. POKEMON GRENINJA FIGURE This is a truly original idea, fun for both child and parent and amazing value for money. I would estimate we could get at least 3-4 craft sessions out of this toy, which will help to break up the summer holidays. Don’t dismiss this as yet another jewellery craft as I almost did, it’s different from anything else that I’ve seen. I would score this product 4.5 stars out of 5.

Overall, this set is very easy to use and will get the creative juices flowing. Initially it took us around 30 minutes to set up the creation station, cutting open bags and filling storage compartments etc. and reading through the instruction manual to fully understand how it all worked, but once done on the next use you are ready to go straight away. Our eight-year-old tester absolutely loved it. She has spent hours considering her deigns and decorations. The set can make up to 100 gems before having to buy new gel and decorations.To use Blo Pens simply put one of the stencils onto a sheet of paper, blow through your pen and see your pictures appears with amazing airbrush effects. Add the glitter for extra sparkly details and shimmer. As a side-note I would love to see a company make a “boys/unisex version” of something like this as well, to open it up to children’s different tastes. Now when I say this, I am not referring to colour or the decorations necessarily as we don’t have a house of defined girls toys and boys toys. However my son doesn’t want to wear hair clips or a bracelet, so his part of the craft was more concerned with the key-ring and making things for me. I know that if there had been more key-rings, some sort of alternative ring mould and a wrist band of sorts, where he could add darker coloured decorations and perhaps superhero faces, he would have been delighted. This isn’t a criticism in any way, just a suggestion as it is such a fantastic toy.

All the kits will contain 1-2 bottles of liquid magic, a UV light source, a themed gem mould, decorations for your gems, assorted jewellery/accessory clips and attachments, stirring tool and instructions. It would also be good for arts & crafts sessions if you are doing home schooling. With very little gel used after our first use, it should last a while, making it good value for money. Stains on the skin: Wash the skin with soap and warm water. For deep staining, keep going until most of the colour has gone. It may take a few washes for the ink to disappear completely.

The GEMEX sets use gel poured into moulds and with the aid of the magic light transforms it into gorgeous sparkling gems that can be used for jewellery making or decorations for a variety of other crafts projects. To make the gems, sprinkle and beads decorations are placed in the moulds and the liquid gel squeezed over them. Then the plastic stirrer is used to push the decorations into place (you can add decorations after the gel has been put into the mould as well). Then a UV light is held over the wet gel for three minutes until it hardens. Once the mould has cooled, you can then pop out the gems and add them to the hairclips or keyring or make jewellery such as rings and clip-on earrings. The gems come out very solid and have a flawless clarity, colour and texture. The water-based inks in Blopens® can sometimes stain skin and fabrics, however these can usually be removed by following the instructions below. My children are 8, 5 and 2 so I waited until my younger boy was asleep (a compromise to them all being asleep) before getting the Gemex set out. On receipt of the product and after scanning over the box I realised that there was a strong chance that I would be creating these jewels in secret when the kids were asleep (I’m not even joking) as it looked fantastic! She has not only loved creating her own gems, decorated in her own unique designs, but has really enjoyed the jewellery making aspect to give her creations to elder sister as well and wearing them herself.

I have to say I had two very excited children at this point. In the set you get two magic mould trays; one with several fruit shapes and another with various 3D jewel shapes. Take a bottle of the “liquid magic” and slowly squeeze it into the mould design you wish to use. The liquid pours slowly, so we didn’t have any spillages. Next you choose the gems to add into the the mould, arranging them and pushing them under the liquid with the stirring tool. The final step is to place the mould inside the central shell light on the creation station, close the lid and press the button. It is quite exciting to watch the flashing light start up on the shell, whilst you wait for the beep alerts to let you know that it’s all finished.The Blo Pens Glitter Studio lets you colour and create decorations as well as make a beautiful butterfly mobile. The easel has lots of storage for your pens and glitters so that you have a mess-free work area. Extra’s– A small pair of jewellery pliers are useful for getting the jump rings through the gem holes so you can attach them to chains and bracelets What Do We Think Of The Gemex Craft Sets The pink and purple box is pretty large and pleasantly easy to unbox and set up, with clear and step-by-step instructions. There is a section which refers to an alternative piece of equipment which we do not have in this set, and that was the only thing that sent us into a panic of wondering what we were doing wrong.
