Beer bread may sound a bit mad, but the history of beer and bread are inextricably linked, and their invention shaped the way our world was built. Seriously. Early bread and beer have exactly the same ingredients – water and cereal. The only difference was that the cereal was ground for bread. The yeast that makes bread rise and beer alcoholic entered the equation by accident; the mixtures were left open to the air, and wild yeasts on the wind got in. The yeast eats the sugars and multiplies (hence the rising) and produces alcohol. Sharp minds among you might ask why, then, isn’t bread alcoholic? That’s because it’s cooked off when it’s baked. Sadly.

Beer Can: Go with your favorite or try something new. The main reason for the beer is not for flavoring but for creating a yeast with the baking powder. Super-simple to make, simply combine the included baking mix with your favourite 330ml bottle of beer and stir to create a stiff batter, then place the dough into a greased loaf pan and bake for around 45 minutes. The result will be a fabulous loaf with a crispy crust and a fluffy inside, and for an extra crispy crust, why not try brushing over some melted butter before baking.

Stir together the self-rising flour, honey, beer, and salt in a large bowl, just until combined. Do not over-mix. You can use your favourite herbs, fresh or dried. Top with your favourite grated cheese. Medium or old cheddar and asiago are the family favourites. Butter– I always use salted butter in all of my bread recipes, but if you don’t use salted butter, add a little salt.

Beer: I do not drink beer so I am not an expert but I have found as I am cooking and baking that a darker beer is best. It adds more flavor. I have tried a few different beers in my bread recipe and so far the darker seems to have the most flavor. Not to worry though, it is a buttery, moist and delicious flavor that doesn’t taste like beer at all. Let me tell you, it is all pantry staple ingredients that is simple to mix together and bake all in one day. It is that fun and easy! Homemade bread is one of my very favorite things to eat. Pair it with your favorite soup, slow cooker meal or just enjoy it warm and fresh out of the oven. Enjoy it anyway you want it! Self-rising flour: this flour includes baking powder (a leavening agent that helps the bread rise) and salt. If you’re not a beer drinker, you can frequently find beers sold individually in your grocery store as well. This easy recipe comes together with about 5 minutes of prep. Mix ingredients together: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a large bowl sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the brown sugar and white sugar. Add the beer and mix together until it forms a dough.Herbs and seasonings: Mix in your favorite fresh or dried herbs to have more flavors. Rosemary or thyme are some of my favorites! Before we go on, bear in mind that the type of beer you choose will affect the final result. It can be a lager, ale or something else – but go with one that you like to drink, and you’re more likely to get a loaf that appeals to your palate. Beer Bread – super easy beer bread recipe using baking staple ingredients with NO kneading involved. It’s as easy as mix, dump and bake! Buttery with a slight crust on top and just the right amount of sweetness. Cheese Beer Bread: Add 1 cup of grated cheddar cheese (or another flavorful shredded cheese of your choice). A teaspoon of garlic powder or 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh chives would also be delicious savory additions! Make sure that your self-rising flour is fresh. If the leavening agents in the self-rising flour are no longer effective, your bread will not rise.
