About this deal

The Fifteenth Legion was formed on Terra, their gene-seed being created and implanted in the first legionaires during a brief resurgence of warp-storms within the boundaries of the Sol system itself. This brief warp-storm was said to have generated psychic flashpoints all across Terra's globe, resulting in outbreaks of madness, suicide and random violence. Whether it had any effect on the legion's gene-seed is doubtful, but upon learning of it years later Magnus himself considered it to be a poor omen. [3a] Soon the pupil became the master, and when the Emperor arrived with the remnants of the XV Legion in tow, Magnus was ready and waiting. He even claimed to have “met” the Emperor in mental form ahead of time – telepathic video calls wouldn’t be that hard for the two most powerful psykers in the galaxy – and set about devising a cure for the mysterious Flesh Change that plagued his sons. In our How to Paint Everything Series we cover how to paint well, everything, with a look at different methods and techniques from different painters and with an eye for different skill levels. In this article, we’re covering how to paint the Thousand Sons, the most sorcerously inclined legion of Chaos Space Marines. With this stabilisation of the gene-seed, the Fifteenth Legion got its second chance. Recruiting from Prospero, they were able to rebuild their numbers – though would never become numerous – and return to the Great Crusade, this time led by their primarch.

Necrons – An ancient, undead alien race in the Warhammer 40K universe, and their colour scheme often features metallic blues and greens. Thousand Sons Blue would be a great choice for adding highlights and accents to Necron models, helping to bring out the intricate details and give them an otherworldly, undead look. And there you have it. Add any further small details you may want, but they’re all ready to go slay the enemies of the Emperor. If you’ve tap danced around the periphery of the boys in blue and gold, without diving into collecting them – or if you’re simply new to Warhammer 40k andyou’ve taken a shine to their stylish Ancient Egyptian aesthetics – here’s our look at who the Thousand Sons are, how to start collecting your own army, and how they perform in the current edition of the game. M31 — Maktor VIII. Even before news of Prospero's destruction, 300 veterans of the Seventh Fellowship are abandoned to their deaths during the assault on Maktor VIII by the Imperial Fists. [38e]For something a little tougher, to plod forward and take the battle to the enemy, Scarab Occult Terminators are the Thousand Sons variant of a Warhammer 40,000 classic. They have excellent stats for shooting, combined with some strong armour which should see them survive the battle. In terms of weapons, the Inferno Combi-bolter can mow down enemy units in moments, dealing a huge amount of damage to enemies like Space Marines with an almost embarrassing amount of ease.

On the tabletop, the Thousand Sons share many similarities with normal Chaos Space Marines – indeed, there’s much crossover in terms of the models available to them – but they remain unique enough to warrant their own rules and Codex. This vendetta would have an irrevocable effect upon the legion. The Thousand Sons had largely retained their legion organisation and structure after the Heresy, even raising and maintaining a large body of mortal troops they referred to as Spireguard in an echo of the Crusade-era Imperial Army regiments of Prospero. However, the last known act of the Thousand Sons as a legion was the Battle of the Fang, in which Magnus committed almost all of their remaining assets. At that time, there were approximately 700 members of the Thousand Sons left (not including the coven of Ahriman) [12a]. Their defeat resulted in the loss of several of the remaining senior legion members, several squads of Rubric Marines, much of their fleet and nearly all of their mortal units. [12] Notable EngagementsStratagem Changes. You can no longer use Stratagems multiple times per phase nor modify the cost of Stratagems unless they have the Battle Tactic type. This is a massive blow to the Thousand Sons, particularly when it comes to the Echoes of the Warp Cabbalistic Ritual, as now you can only use it to get a free use out of a very small number of Stratagems. Specifically, Command Re-roll, Devastating Sorcery, and Go to Ground. That’s not the end of the world, as the free Devastating Sorcery was a solid use for the ritual, but this one really hurts, as it means no more double Overwatch or Grenade, nor free use of Warp Sight. Start the silver areas by painting any of the “machinery” with Vallejo Metal Color Magnesium, and any gun barrels or the metal areas on the lances with Iron Hands Steel. Ahzek Ahriman — Chief Librarian, Captain of the 1st Fellowship and Magister Templi of the Corvidae [3g] It helps to paint your heads separately no matter what you do, but this is especially important for your skin, because you don’t want to get flesh tones on your nice finished armor color. For the flesh tones, I wanted something a bit greyer and more inhuman than your standard Cadian Fleshtone. I go into more detail in the HTPE: Human Skin article, but for Caracalla, the skin is VGA Dwarf Skin mixed with a mid/slightly dark grey. To highlight, I mixed in more of the dwarf skin, though the entire color range I used has a good proportion of grey in it. Instead of a flesh wash, I used diluted nuln oil to wash the skin. Each Cult in turn is divided into nine Sects commanded by lesser Sorcerers and Daemon Princes. These in turn are divided into Thrallbands, which make up the basic fighting units of the Thousand Sons.

Arising from the origins of their first recruits and being driven by the early legion's need to discover a cure for the flesh-change and gain deeper understanding and control of their psychic abilities, these linked beliefs resulted in two major cultural factors developing in the Thousand Sons; veneration of the text and veneration of their Primarch. [1] How the Thousand Sons currently maintain their numbers is unknown, although they have been observed carrying out an apparent resurrection ritual at least once. On this occasion the spirits of deceased Thousand Sons were summoned from the warp into mortal bodies (whether living or dead making no particular difference), bodies which then transformed themselves into reborn Thousand Sons. Thousand Sons Pre Heresy

Coat D'Arms match the OLD citadel colours (pre-1992) so there might be some difference. Shining gold has the most noticeable difference, Final highlight the bottom-right of the jewel with an even smaller layer of Baharroth Blue mixed with White. Wash the gold with Gloss Reikland Fleshshade. Necro Gold is a somewhat greenish gold, and the red tones in the fleshshade warm up the colors while retaining the darker tone. Before the Heresy, the Thousand Sons operated several Fellowships roughly equivalent to Companies. While there were originally ten, after the events in the Kamenka Troika the legion was reorganised into nine Fellowships. Each Fellowship was led by a powerful Psyker. [3h] Spread out among these Fellowships were several Cults that specialized in different Psychic disciplines. [3i]
