About this deal

The optical glass that Bresser use in these is coated with an anti-reflective coating for a brighter and better quality image than what you get on the many imitation kids binoculars that don't have any coatings and which are now available. All the image specifications on this instrument are impressive, but it is the extremely wide field of view that really stands out and is certainly a particular strength of this instrument. This will most certainly be an advantage to wildlife and especially birders operating at short to mid distances where the wide view makes it easier to locate and then follow fast, sometimes erratic moving critters! As you can see from the comparison table below, all the Bresser Pirsch ED binoculars compare very well against other instruments in their price range in terms of the optical components used and their coatings:

Very good quality of the view with good color reproduction, contrast levels, very low levels of color fringing, hardly any image softening at the edges of the view, and no other visible distortions. These National Geographic Children's binoculars are based on their very successful ExploreOne 6x21 Junior Compact binoculars and are a fully functional roof prism compact binocular that has the optical performance that matches that of a standard 'adult' compact binocular at the same sort of price level.

I also tested them all again once the sun had dipped below the horizon with the light going from what I would describe as poor to extremely poor. True to form, the 8x56 performed best, then the 8x42, and finally these 8x34 binoculars were notably less bright. To give you an idea of the difference, just after sunset, I could still "see" a tree out in my garden with all three instruments, but it all depends on how much detail you want or need to observe. So with the 8x56, you can still distinguish details like markings on the trunk, these are less obvious with the 8x42 and with the 8x42 it is pretty much in silhouette. I did test them whilst wearing my sunglasses and I was able to achieve almost the entire field of view with only a minimum, but what I would call an acceptable amount of dark edging around the outer limits of the view. This is important as we all know most wildlife, in most areas is most active early on in the morning, or late in the afternoon, when the light conditions are often suboptimal. During general use, testing, and in my comparison tests, at no time did I observe any sort of curvature of the image and once you have focused right in on an object, it remains sharp and in focus from the center of the view, right out to the edges.

The Bresser Nautic 7x50 Binocular (WP/CMP) features a integrated and illuminated precision compass, whilst the Bresser Nautic 8x42 has an integrated digital compass in its armor housing, which points you the right way, at any time. Temperature and time are shown on the display. The Twist Up eyecups ensure an optimal eye distance setting. It’s nitrogen filled body prevents the optics from fogging up on the inside of the binocular, caused by rapid temperature variations. These two fasteners make for an extremely secure case and possibly it is a little overkill. Having to open both of these to gain access to your instrument does take a little extra time and in certain situations, time can be critical or at best it gets a little annoying if you have to do it often. The advantage of these over Porro prisms (the other commonly used design) is that they are more compact and because the light exits in the same line as it enters, you can make a more streamlined and compact body shape. The fit and finish of this pair is very good and way better than what I was expecting in a sub 200 euro pair of optics! What I can say is that due to the fact that they do not highlight or mention it, this probably means that they do not have any elements made from ED (extra-low dispersion ) glass... however, this is not necessarily a bad thing:All Nautic series models are waterproof (Immersion tested at 1m for 60sec) and have a water resistant and robust rubber armor as well as a gas purged optical tubes and are supplied with a flotation strap. The gas purged filling of the Nautic binoculars prevents water and moisture from entering the binocular by creating an interior pressure capsule and are therefore the ideal binocular for maritime use on board. The 7x magnification model makes it possible to achieve a relatively steady image during rough sea conditions.
