But as per the standard of vegan protein bars, it’s pretty decent. It’s not the best one, but it’s okayish(acceptable). Texture– All of these had varying degrees of chewiness, and none of them were chalky at all. They have a great texture for protein bars.

After some chewing, the bar does become a little tasteless, once the hit of salty peanut has passed. After a brief, albeit blissful, moment, the bar becomes regular old chocolate protein bar, until you move in for the next mouthful.

With Hope's advise in mind, here's our round-up of eleven widely-sold bars, complete with tasting notes and nutritional info. Upon taking the first bite, you’re hit with a marvellous roasted peanut flavour, the hint of salt really working to give it a depth of flavour you wouldn’t expect from a protein bar. The peanut pieces on the top are lovely, slightly crunchy and well covered by the creamy chocolate coating. This one looked almost exactly the same as the chocolate dough (from the outside.) It had the chocolate chunks on top and a milk chocolate coating. I really like the cashew pieces on this one – they add some crunch and are a refreshing change from the crispies you find on pretty much every protein bar these days.

So here comes the list. 1. Barebells Salty Peanut Flavor Protein Bars This bar takes the best parts of all the other bars, combines them into one bar, and somehow makes them even better. Nutrition facts– 190-200 calories/bar. 7-8g fat. 50-105mg sodium. 19-20g carbs. 3-4g fiber. 1-2g sugar. 13-14g sugar alcohols. 20g protein. They’re not insanely high in fiber like Quest Bars, and they don’t contain a ton of sugar alcohols either (only around 5g per bar). The center is softy, and you don’t have to put a lot of effort to chew. The sweet and creamy chocolate coating and the crispies on the top felt good. The overall texture is spot on.Barebells made some rather large claims when this flavour was released, and similarities with a certain range of luxury Italian chocolates were more than implied (‘little crunchy Rocher-style Hazelnut pieces’). Does it live up to their hype? So all in all Barebells have delivered on the mint and the sprinkles, but to call this mint dark chocolate is a bare-faced lie and I just won’t condone it. Lemon Curd White Chocolate (8.5/10) All the flavors look basically the same: a thin coating of milk chocolate and some sort of chunks on top (in this case, chocolate chunks.)

I won’t lie, this bar disappointed me. Although not a fan of coconut, I’ll make an exception when it’s mixed with chocolate – just not for this bar. The flavor is tough to describe, and I can truly only describe it as a candy. The nougat interior is extremely light & airy, there’s a gooey caramel layer, a delicious chocolate coating, and crunchy cookie pieces lining the exterior of the bar. Historically speaking, protein bars have been very dense and chewy. For bars that have tried to mimic the candy bar textures, I’ve found that the flavor is not quite there, or they end up tasting very artificial (like Fit Crunch Bars). Milk protein, collagen peptides, humectant (glycerol), sweetener (sucralose, maltitol), polydextrose, cocoa, water, milk powder, sunflower oil, almonds, salt, soy lecithin. Hazelnut nougat’s center is filled with soft nougat cream and a milk chocolate coating. The smooth texture of the core is balanced with the Cripsy outer chocolate layer.There’s no other way to say it – this bar is ‘meh’, boring, a bit bland. It’s not bad, but its not fab. It’s oddly similar to Fulfil’s Hazelnut Whip bar, just without the benefit of a hazelnut flavour. No shade to Barebells but, like with so many other flavours, Fulfil just outdoes them here. Hazelnut Nougat (6.5/10) Anyway, at time of writing, Barebells protein bars come in nine flavours, which you can skip to using the links below: Mint chocolate has really grown on me, and I no longer consider it toothpaste with a twist. A pretty standard protein bar flavour, Barebells’ mint offering doesn’t match the likes of Grenade, but it’s a pleasant bar for mint fanatics (but not if you’re expecting dark chocolate). On top of their slightly spennier price point, there are so many different varieties of protein bar out there. It can be hard to know which one to choose – especially if you have dietary requirements (such as being vegan), have allergies or suffer from IBS.

Personally, it was my least favorite of the bars. It was Mary’s least favorite, as well, because we’re both not big peanut fans. There are hundreds of protein bar brands available in the market, and every year or two, more and more businesses are hopping into the company with their products. Barebells is one such product that has been making a lot of buzz since the last year. This one had crushed up peanuts on top and was coated in milk chocolate. It had a thin layer of (I’m assuming) caramel inside.The primary source of protein is whey protein isolate. We all know that whey protein is a high-quality protein with a faster absorption rate than other protein sources. Barebells has somehow figured out how to capture the texture you want in a candy bar, while still providing delicious flavor AND very favorable nutrition facts.
