So let’s talk a bit about that and how it makes this a good headset to get. Typically, most headsets come with a single driver. This means that one little tiny driver is doing all the work – bass, mids and highs (frequencies). Ultimately, the output would sound muddled. With duo driver, the headset is capable of separating deep bass from mid and high frequencies. This makes it capable of delivering a rich and full range audio for superior clarity. We featured the ANC version of the Razer Hammerhead headphones the other week, so this week I tried the Razer Hammerhead Duo Headphones, which is the non-noise cancelling version.

What should you get instead of the Razer Hammerhead Duo?

The dual drivers should also result in crisper audio free from distortion even if you’re enjoying things at a loud volume. The Razer Hammerhead Duo takes its name from the custom-tuned dual drivers housed in each earpiece. Dual Driver technology functions by having two audio drivers work in harmony to deliver perfectly balanced sound – with deep bass from the Dynamic Driver and bright, high-frequency details from the Balanced Armature Driver. The music and sound effects in Dragon Quest III on Android came through in all their retro glory. Even better was the fact that Switch games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition sounded nuanced and balanced, particularly the voicework and orchestral scores. It has pretty decent noise cancellation. If you read my last review on the Hammerhead USB-C ANC, you would know that I’m a frequent traveler by bus. The loud rumbling of the engine is typically the main cause of annoyance but anytime I get the chance to travel with a Hammerhead, it’s always a good time. Though if you’re looking for the ultimate noise canceling headset, I would recommend getting the Hammerhead ANC.

Watched some Game of Thrones and winter definitely arrived in my ears thanks to the Hammerhead Duo. As for music listening on the phone, the treble can be quite sharp if you listen on high volume. Lowering it fixes this for me. I listened to my usual servings of BTS, chill step mixes on YouTube and occasionally some Lauv and Khalid. Regardless of genre, the audio output is the same. The bass is fine and the trebles are clean.

The aluminium frame and braided cables should ensure it’s more robust than your usual in-ear headset, and it’ll also ship with additional ear-cups if any happen to be lost.

The Hammerhead Duo is well-named due to it’s two drivers. The dual-driver technology promises immersive sound because the drivers separate the deep bass sounds from mid- and high- frequencies which means you have a full sound experience. When listening to these on my commute I missed my ANC headphones, but the sound profile was good and I didn’t notice too much loss. The two drivers are a balanced armature driver in the earpiece, and a dynamic driver behind that which deliver better sound than single-driver counterparts on the market. Compared to single driver headphones, dual drivers allow for more effective sound separation and produce clearer and louder audio that is free from distortion – resulting in a crisper, more precise audio experience whether you are catching up on your favourite TV series or music playlist on the go.
