About this deal

For cork surfaces, due to their high absorbency please ensure that the wood finish is applied especially thinly. So when you are happy with your test areas and ready to apply. Start by giving the tin a good stir before and periodically during application to prevent inconsistencies in the finish. Then it’s as simple as loading the brush dabbing off any excess and applying thinly, working with the grain and in manageable areas. Once applied remove any excess with a microfibre cloth and leave to dry. In addition to its practical benefits, Polyx-Oil Effect is also easy to apply and brings out the natural beauty of the wood. Simply clean and sand the surface, apply the oil using a cloth or roller, and allow it to dry. The result is a beautiful, natural finish that will last for years to come. We want a light-coloured look that is as close to the original pine as possible. We also want to keep the character of the reclaimed wood surface as intact as possible - it's been lightly wire-brushed by machine but still has plenty of colour variation, holes, knots and bumps. These make us happy.

What’s the deal with clear? A clear product suggests it doesn’t change the colour of the wood, but it actually does. Clear Polyx Oil will bring out the natural tone and patina of the wood, enhancing the grain giving it will appear darker and what we call the “wet look”. For dark and extractive-rich hardwoods (e.g. Wenge, Walnut, Jatoba etc.), we recommend using Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin. Damp mopping using diluted Osmo Wash and Care and the Micro-Mop plush from the Osmo Mop Cleaning Kit for Floors. Alternatively use the convenient Osmo Spray-Mop Osmo Top Oil does look good, but it doesn’t last, or protect your timber very well. For this reason, I tend to look at the alternatives. They have a point and Osmo does work well, however you do need to be careful not to apply too much product or work it too heavily onto your wood. If you do either of those things, there is a chance of lifting that veneer and ruining your door. That being said, it is safer than most other products on veneer and a lot of suppliers recommend it.

Any thing that covers a large are of the floor, for example a settee or sideboard, particularly if the they are low could potentially slow down the curing process slightly, so if possible have a temporary location for a week and then move and expose that area for curing after. Its not vital, however could help with even curing and appearance over time, be practical however as in life sometimes makes it difficult to do these things.The ideal application tool is a firm, fine, natural bristled brush. For the best results, apply thinly and remove any excess oil from the surface of the wood with a clean, lint-free cloth. My preference is the satin over the matt as I think it gives you the most dramatic impact. The best thing about any Osmo oil is how rich it makes your timber look!! Osmo brings out the grain like no other product I have used in my professional career, except maybe Fiddes Hard Wax Oil. Even when using tinted Osmo oil you loose nothing in the way of character and charm from the wood. Third Coat: Usually a third coat is not required, however highly absorbent or dry timbers may appear to require a third coat. One thing I would avoid for at least 2 weeks it putting down any rugs, this will certainly slow down the curing process and result in a patch on you floor when in the future you come to lift the rug. I think this is the one that trips people up a bit. It is comprised of five individual products. Four are clear, and one is not. Let’s start with the one that is not - Osmo Effect/Neutral/Raw 3041 (I have seen it referred to all three ways which also adds to the confusion). It has a 2% white tint in it to counter the natural ambering of lighter woods, such as maple, ash, and white oak. You can use either 1 or 2 coats, depending on the look you are after. You will never get a truly white finish from it because it only has so much white in it. It has more of a matte finish to it and should be topcoated with a clear Osmo finish. I have used it on both maple and ash, and the wood looks almost bare afterwards. Osmo Polyx Oil Raw is an interior hard wax wood oil which is designed to retain the natural raw appearance of lighter coloured timbers.
