The likes of myself will use platforms like this to question the owner’s ambition but there is a time and a place. If you asked that same Premier League fans who the biggest clubs in the league are, assuming they are rational, they would likely only put Liverpool and Manchester United ahead of the Gunners, and maybe Chelsea too if they’re feeling a little frisky. There is a famous motto for years we had on our shirts, Victoria Concordia Crescit, Latin for Victory through Harmony. For decades we had a reputation of being the club who acted with class and did things the right way. It looks as though Harry Homer came up with his “idea” whilst browsing through the club’s programme archive. It is also good to see that the club has started to feature this classic Latin phrase more and more over recent months. Who knows, maybe we will see it once more become as prominent on the kit as it was during the 1990s. One of the first things Chapman and Claude Waterlow Ferrier [the architect of Highbury's East and West stands] did was to "rebrand" the club. Perhaps therein lies the reason why supporters identify so strongly with this side. On that pitch they see a group of players who care. Players who know what a privilege it is to play for The Arsenal. Players who fight tooth and nail for glory, just how those in the stands wish they could. Perhaps that is why it is so easy to root for this current Arsenal team.
