About this deal

They looked good in the bedroom and the sound was excellent, especially considering the price and the size of the speaker (small). Although you may want a speaker that produces amazing sound, it should also fit your studio’s aesthetic. Edifier R1700BT

So I connected the sub to speakers via a thin RCA-3.5mm cord that came with the speakers, and the output is pretty weak. I have to crank the sub volume to full to get a decent sound, whereas I could only turn it halfway max on my previous system with a receiver. It has a variable LPF range from 40Hz to 150Hz, not sure what the best setting is. I can't tell if changing the LPF re-directs bass from the speakers to the sub or if they are overlapping certain frequencies. Am I supposed to turn the bass down on the speaker EQ settings when connecting the sub? While the R1700BT provides incredible value, the R1850DB’s extra connectivity, sleek design, and subtle but noticeable audio improvements are worth the very little extra. If you want this model then obviously you wish to be future proof with respect to adding Subwoofer. So the effective price will cross 24k. But I am sure thats worth it to many.With Subtle but noticeable improvements over the R1700BT, the R1850DB has excellent build quality with durability that should deliver for many years. The Bluetooth is a great feature allowing us to use them to play music and videos from our phones as well. Maybe because they didn’t engineer the remote but took an existing design and just printed their own label? My first impression was that I really liked the design, they fit in almost any environment, except perhaps really old school cottages. A strange comparison, but I have reviewed a pair of Edifiers in an old cottage before over at Fullsync.

I just you take a break and go watch the video on Youtube-Curator Cast to get a feel of everything I said above. The flared rear bass port is securely mounted to avoid rattling or tearing with use or when being moved around.

The buttons on the remote feel a little on the cheap side but the speakers themselves seem well made and have solid feeling knob functionality. Sturdy spring-loaded posts accept banana plugs for solid cable connections to help keep up the premium feel of the R1700BT. Remote control just works. I am not going to complain about it being light or cheap or whatever. It just does what its meant to do which is volume control, AUX/PC/Bluetooth/Optical mode switch and song play, pause and next, turn off, and mute. This speaker is a pure hifi speaker for music / movies / gaming etc . However due to the Angled / Tilted upwards cabinet it is better suited for computer audio as your ears should be around 12 - 15 inches above the speaker to get the best sound quality. The R1850DB’s small but smart improvements across the frequency range, especially when it comes to the bass and mids, result in a more refined and complete listening experience compared to the R1700BT.

The Edifier R1700BT can deliver impressive audio considering the compact size and excellent price point. volume range seems ridiculous for listening to anything but 60-100% range is sweet spot you'll definitely love Add to that the fact that the phase anomalies introduced by these three bass units can be unpleasant, and I just wasn't thrilled. So I started noodling on what to do about it. Their size is amazing, the volumes they reach are incredible. The remote is good. The ergonomics are nice. I'm also wondering if I just need a better cable or an actual pre-amplifier to get a full bass response. I saw the ART DJPREII pre-amp recommended on another thread but really don't want to spend the money unless I have to.The size of the speakers are fairly compact also. The remote control is fairly simple and sturdy with just a mute button and the volume control. We were not paid for this review. The speakers have since been returned to the PR Company working on behalf of Edifier. The speakers are heavy and solid – they FEEL valuable. I like the slight upward angle a lot as they are aimed perfectly from my desktop to my ears. They look modern and sleek, with or without the grills (though I have a two year old and will probably keep them on). The cable that connects the two speakers is super long – much longer than I needed (mine are only a couple of feet apart). The right speaker has the IR sensor for the remote and a small status/power indicator light that glows through the grill. It’s such a shame that these are just loan units, as I didn’t want to let them go. They’re really really good and when the sun is shining, the BBQ is on there is little else you’d need, other than a good sound system and the Edifier R1850DB’s hit the nail on the head.
