It tells the story of a grandfather and grandson both grappling with the coming out process and the prejudices that still exist in our society.

An adorable and cute story, but I couldn’t really get into the book because I found the dialog to be forced and awkward…? Which is a real shame, because I was so excited to read this book - the premise sounded really amazing.He was the first Showbiz Editor at Digital Sp y and has written for publications including the Independent , the Telegraph , Attitude , Radio Times and Yahoo. But Teddy doesn't feel ready to come out yet – especially when Arthur’s announcement causes shockwaves in the family. I suspect this is going to be the dividing factor on whether people like this: are you a reader who wants to see the best in everyone, or do you feel some people need a good kicking? Similarly, with a lot going on in the plot and the need for everything to feel resolved due to the necessary happy ending of the genre, the ending is quite rushed and a lot of things suddenly happen with time jumps that don't quite feel fully realised.

In a sense, it is both central to the story, and totally irrelevant that Arthur and Teddy are gay, because this is a story about love, life and being true to yourself that is pertinent to every reader, regardless of their sexuality or age. A beautiful read…I picked up Arthur and Teddy Are Coming Out by Ryan Love to take with me on a weekend away. But why can't you be happy that your grandfather, father, son, brother, cousin, uncle, nephew, colleague, friend [insert relation here] is happy, even if they're happiness comes from another grandfather, father, son etc etc? Both Arthur and Teddy are engaging main characters, and there is a good balance so you’re never itching to get back to the other narrator.

It feels very much like a queer book aimed at the masses that is trying to throw in so much that it doesn't do justice to any single issue and simply becomes almost like trauma porn. Thus, they break up because Ben has broken Teddy’s trust (fair enough), but there’s hardly mention of how badly Teddy had been treating Ben up to this point. Umso schöner ist es, davon zu lesen, wie Arthur und Teddy sich gegenseitig unterstützen und für einander die Bezugsperson werden, die ihnen bis dahin gefehlt hat.
