About this deal

The Kenwood’s accompanying recipe book contains a good range of recipes, some of them rather foodie. We have repeatedly made excellent granary bread with this machine, and made one very good white loaf, although we didn't use the recipe in the book.

It has a viewing window and an internal oven light that makes it easy to keep an eye on baking progress. If you experience a power cut mid way through the baking process, the unit will remember where it was and carry on where it left off. The rapid white loaf works well with a good shape and colour but the programme is quite long for a quick programme at 2. The recipe book is clearly detailed with the various sizes and at the back it gives the breakdown times of all the different programs, time for kneading, rising etc. Wait till the yeast has bubbles on the surface of the water, only then you put into the breadmaker with the rest of the recipe.I tried again with some stronger bread flour: Allinsons Very Strong Wholemeal, and this time the bread didn’t collapse.

The display is a difficult to see when the breadmaker is on a standard height worktop and you are somewhat short in height! The Kenwood BM450 has 15 programmes for bread, doughs, cakes and jams, and a rapid bake setting for a fresh loaf of bread in as little as 58 minutes. I'm sure that there's nothing wrong with my recipe - it's kenwood this time - and it cannot produce airy kind of breads - just dense dense dense. These recipes should also work well with older machines however please check quantities carefully, particularly with compact models.

Overall a nice little machine that makes nice bread that lasts around 3 days if put in a plastic bag, so well worth it. It is so easy to use and we would recommend this machine to anyone interested in baking their own bread. I have not used it excessively but I am afraid that the clips will go soon which will make it unuseable they are strangely cheaper metal than the rest. A great recipe to try if you’re new to making bread, this loaf is ideal for sandwiches, or simply enjoy it toasted, with lashings and slathered with of butter.

Big on flavour and simple to make, this delicious soda bread makes a nice change from sandwiches come lunch time. Mine has produced excellent bread, no problems with the pan moving, indeed I have trouble in removing it. Washing it up was slightly fiddly, as you have to pop the two pieces of plastic apart, but it was still overall worth it. If I do not disperse the yeast into warm water, my bread will always, yes, always come out hard as a rock or wet in the middle of the bread.The kneading blade got stuck in the loaf, but this didn’t seem like it would be a perennial problem. On the plus side, the bread does come out of the tin easily, and so far we think the tin has stayed in place in the machine when it was put in properly (some people have had problems with this), although you have to take care putting it in. But if you can afford twice as much, the very best breadmaker performance we’ve seen so far was from the Panasonic SD-ZB2502BXC.
