The worst thing is, I thought the author had potential, but she bit off more than she could deal with in this idea. Listening to People Who Knew Me feels like a brain work-out, like an enigma code that needs cracking.

A young cynic in 1992, Emily develops into a good judge of character, choosing her friends carefully in New York and marrying young. In every family (thank goodness) there’s a saintly child who takes on the burdens of caregiving but what if you’re the one married to that saint?It is instead a close and affecting study of how the choices we make, both the altruistic and the most selfish equally, expose life’s tragic truths. Connie starts chemotherapy and tries to ignore the advances of fellow patient, Paul, as she delves back to her past to try to figure out where it all went wrong with Emily’s husband Drew. She was such a coward and she didn’t show any remorse for the people she hurt by leaving them behind. Long after each instalment, you'll find yourself reflecting on what Emily told you, on what she allowed you to know.

I am excited for people to hear what we've made – the wonderful thing about audio drama is that, when done well, it can feel like eavesdropping on very, very private conversation. I wanted to adapt the book into something that played into the inherent confessional quality of the audio medium.

First we follow Emily in her college years when she meets Drew and falls hopelessly and helplessly in love.
