About this deal

Celluvisc is an eye drop solution. It is presented as a clear, colourless to pale yellow solution in a small see-through (bubble-like) casing (known as a ‘single-dose container’). The single-dose container has a twist-off cap. Each single-dose container contains 0.4 ml of solution. Close your eye. Gently press your finger over the inside corner of your eye (over the eyelid) for about 1 minute. This helps to keep the drop in your eye. At the time of writing there is limited published experience regarding the safety of carmellose sodium in breastfeeding, however, carmellose sodium eye drops have been used for many years with no adverse effects reported and the manufacturer states no special precautions are necessary during breastfeeding. Carmellose has a high molecular weight and would be unlikely to be present in breastmilk. Schaefer considers that most eye drops are compatible with breastfeeding and that artificial tears are not amongst those ophthalmic preparations likely to raise concern (Schaefer 2007). Carmellose sodium is available to buy from pharmacies or supermarkets. Some brands are available on prescription. You should start to feel the benefits of carmellose sodium eye drops straight away. However, it can take several weeks of regular use before you feel the full benefits.

These all moisturise the eye and have a similar effect to carmellose sodium. You could also try a lubricating eye gel or eye ointment. If your symptoms do not get better after trying 1 or 2 different brands of eye drops, speak to your pharmacist or doctor for advice.If you’re using carmellose sodium with another medicine and getting dry eyes, it might be that the dose of your other medicine is too high., Speak to your pharmacist or doctor to find out. They may suggest a similar medicine that does not cause dry eyes. Mixing carmellose sodium with herbal remedies or supplements Carmellose sodium comes in a bottle with an eye dropper, or as a box of single-dose droppers. The single-dose droppers do not contain preservatives. How to use the eye drops Make sure the tip of the bottle or dropper does not touch anything, including your eye, eyelashes, eyelid or your skin. The other ingredients are sodium chloride, sodium lactate, potassium chloride, calcium chloride dihydrate, magnesium chloride hexahydrate and purified water. Small amounts of sodium hydroxide or hydrochloric acid may be added to bring the solution to the correct pH (a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of the solution). CELLUVISC ® may cause temporary blurring of vision. If you do experience temporary blurring, do not drive or use machines until your sight is clear. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist. They may recommend using a brand that does not contain a preservative, single-dose drops or other eye drops for dry eyes. Serious side effects The frequency of adverse reactions documented during clinical trials is given. The frequency is defined as follows: Very Common (≥ 1/10); Common (≥1/100, <1/10); Uncommon (≥1/1,000, <1/100); Rare (≥1/10,000, <1/1,000); Very Rare (<1/10,000), not known (cannot be estimated from the available data). Close your eye for a minute or two, and press gently on the side of your nose where the corner of your eye meets your nose. This helps to stop the drop from draining away and keeps it in your eye.

Children

Common: Eye irritation (including burning and discomfort), eye pain, eye pruritus, visual disturbance. Occasionally, the drops can cause an allergic reaction with redness, swelling and irritation of the eye or eyelids.
