About this deal

Then if you’re talking hand weed pullers then less still. Basically, you want one of the top models for weeds like Dandelion and Thistles. If it’s smaller plants in grass like daises then you definitely want to opt for the Wilkinson Sword.

Whilst they won’t get at the roots of larger weeds, they’re good for dislodging smaller plants before they are able to take root. A Weeding Hoe It would interesting to find the occupations and experience of those people that managed to break their Fiskars weed pullers, I am sure they have no knowledge of applied physics. Some people should not be let loose with tools at all, as many will break tools due to trying to use them beyond their design parameters. Not only can it end up quite expensive to buy herbicides, they can also have negative effects on the environment. One of the biggest problems is that the chemicals have the potential to remain ‘active’ in the soil for a long time; as a result, they can have adverse effects on bio-organisms, animals, and plant life that weren’t the desired recipients of the product. The handle is made from a strong fibreglass and is lightweight. This is extremely easy to use and works every time. The handle grip is also non-slip and the device is easy to clean.

The best time to head out to your garden to do a little weeding is after a rainfall. The soil becomes moist and easier to work with. The first thing I noticed was the quality. With a wooden handle and a neat ‘Newman and Cole’ engraving, this weed brush felt thoughtfully designed from the start. The bristles are seriously heavy duty, made from wire. The working length is 120 cm, so it can be used fully from standing.

Whilst it’s easy to cover a large area with these weeding tools, and they’re particularly good to use in flowerbeds and vegetable patches, they can’t really be used in hard ground and need to be used in toiled soil. I have genuine concerns about the longevity of this product and I doubt it will hold up well to abuse. This is because dry soil shrinks and compacts around the roots. Sure, you can still pull out the weed, but some of the roots may remain where they’ll start growing again. Since I last reviewed this they made a big upgrade that has significantly improved the model, shooting it into a third sport for long handled garden weeders – especially with it’s lifetime guarantee! The Newer model is basically stronger and more durable at pulling and holding weeds. And it shows, it’s rated half a star higher at 4.5 now as opposed to the old one that was only 4.Finally, while the design is very similar to the Garden Tools Multifunctional Weed Puller, it doesn’t have the same multifunctionality, yet it’s a little more expensive. For this reason, I’m not going to score it so highly when it comes to value for money. Grampa’s weeder is what we would call a traditional device. A far cry from the modern competitors in this review. However simple or old fashioned the design can’t be faulted. This garden weeder has minimal parts. The single handle is made from treated wood and comes with a hanging hole for storage. The handle is connected to the powder-coated cast iron claw which works with a single bolt and leaver action from the foot pedal. Simply place over the weed, dig into the ground and push down on the pedal. Lastly, tilt the weed puller and out comes the weed. Clearing weeds and moss from between paving without kneeling isn’t always possible, but the Newman and Cole Long Handle Weed Brush makes it a lot easier. It’s been designed for clearing smaller weeds from patios, while it can be used from a standing position which makes it ideal for those with limited mobility.
