I highly recommend reading this book along with Dr Fung’s The Obesity Code to really grasp why intermittent fasting is important and how to reverse insulin resistance. If knowing all the benefits of IF interest you and if you’re more concerned with your health than your pant size, give this book a miss. Gin earned a Doctor of Education degree in Gifted and Talented Education in 2009, a Master's degree in Natural Sciences in 1997, and a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 1990.

She isn't pretentious or try hard, she's selling something, she just presents the way she tried and failed and then finally found something that worked, and that can probably work for anyone. There are many other, better, less crazy books that go into more detail about the science and many benefits of IF. I have seen these links in footnotes of other books, but never considered reading them myself until the author suggested it. The “ rip off the band-aid” is the most drastic approach to intermittent fasting that throws you right in at the deep end. Reading this book makes me feel like I’ve gained a new friend who I can ask anything about IF and she help because she wants me to succeed.Short and to the point the Annotated Bibliography in the back is the best book list I've seen, you should read it for that alone although it really is a fantastic quick read that gives you the basics of a clean fast. However, she says quite readily in her book that if you aren't losing weight on fasting alone, you may need to adjust what you eat.

While you can chose how much you want to fast and what exactly you want to eat in our eating window, if you want to enjoy the TRUE benefits of IF (and there are many! I have noticed that I have huge amounts of energy, I have times I do not feel hungry and am full for hours and hours? I also started reading the Obesity Code while reading this and I stated fasting the day a friend told me about this book and Gin's story!I had already read the Obesity Code before this and although I thought it was interesting, I didn’t put it into practice. Many people think intermittent fasting means simply eating whatever they like, but this isn’t strictly true.

It wasn’t the author’s recommendations that threw me off - I’ve been fasting for health reasons for some time now, and have read most of what is available on the science of how and why it works. However, if you persevere with it, you will get into ketosis faster and start seeing results sooner. In fact, there was an alternate method that also became popular—the “alternate-day fasting protocol” or what we also know as the “up-and-down” approach.This is a most reassuring, easy reading and informative book to browse through if you ever worried about the fact that you just cannot face breakfast in the early morning, are ravenous by midday and then not hungry again until the evening meal. But as the months passed with very little progress in my weight loss journey, I kept thinking I might need to revisit DDD. I've shared her chapter describing insulin resistance a few times already to explain why I'm doing IF. The thing that is truly solid about Dealt, Don’t Deny , is that she uses scientific and medical resources to back up her claims. In this audiobook, you will learn the science behind intermittent fasting and also understand how to adjust the various intermittent-fasting plans to work for your unique lifestyle.

Many of them were stories of yo-yo dieting and weight loss where they ultimately "ended" with intermittent fasting, but they had only been doing it for a few weeks or months. Dr Jason Fung's book was about the science and far less about what "Living an Intermittent Lifestyle" means which is EXACTLY what you get in this book (after all, it's in the title.

Gin Stephens didn't invent intermittent fasting but she has perfected the strategy and the details of what 'clean' fasting is and it really does work. I've been curious to learn more about the concept of intermittent fasting, and the book does a very good job of giving a comprehensive overview as well as a good list of resources to go to for more information.
