About this deal

The internal hardware and software are where you’ll find the major differences as it’s the first in the series that features WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS connectivity, that’s where the GW comes from. This allows you to connect the 322GW to the MyNextbase Connect app and view your dashcam footage on your mobile phone. By comparison, the 222 dashcam requires you to take out the SD card and insert it into a laptop or PC. On the other hand, if you’re keen to record extremely high-quality, clear footage - for example, if you live in a busy town and are prone to encountering hazardous situations - then the extra cash isn't too much of a push. It’ll get you clearer, more fluid footage, which for a lot of dash cam buyers matters more than value - and it's still much cheaper than many inferior cameras. We don’t recommend Samsung cards, we see lots of problems further down the line. The read/write speed is more than capable @macgd016 Nextbase have reserved many of their best features for the 622GW which was announced later than the other devices in the Series 2 Dashcam range and only went on sale in 2020.

Below are links to step by step instructions about how to update the firmware on your Nextbase Dash Cam. The Firmware Update Guides contain instructions for both Windows users as well as Mac users. Select the Dash Cam you have and wish to upgrade Plug your Dash Cam in. Ensure the cable is plugged directly into the dash cam and NOT via the mount. Then the Dash Cam will be visible as a removable drive on your computer. If you go into My Computer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) you will be able to see the Dash Cam listed as a drive, usually called NEXTBASE. The 122 is right at the lower end of the market and is a small, compact device that comes at a budget price. It has all of the essential features you need from a dashcam, including loop recording which writes over the footage you don’t need so you never need to delete the footage. If you need to keep footage, you can manually save it or the built in G-sensor can detect crashes and protect footage for you. The problem seems to be progressing or changing today, several times the blue lights on the left side have come on (but no bleeping) and then the camera has powered down. Also when at home with the camera powered off but connected to my PC it has spontaniously powered on, then later it powered down as well.The 4-metre cable is long enough to be trailed neatly through door seals and around the windscreen for a very tidy installation. The alternative is a hard-wired wiring set up; hooking the power mount into the ignition circuit and keeping the wires out of sight. Listing cards might be open to interpretation that a company don't recommend a brand and perhaps that could lead to an issue, if you get my drift. I don't know of any that specifically say you should buy brand A in case brand B or C take umbridge with it. The GPS allows you to see where the footage was filmed which can be seen side by side with the footage itself, it also records speed which could help in any accidents or insurance claims. There’s another new feature called AutoSync which transmits the low-res videos to your phone and uploads them to the new Nextbase Cloud where they are kept for 30 days. There’s no charge for this, and Nextbase says there will never be. Unfortunately, there’s very little help in the app an no explanation of how to enable AutoSync or how to access these videos in the cloud. We have two types of mounts available; a suction cup or an adhesive mount. The adhesive mount is considerably more durable and less prone to breakage.

Overall the 422GW is a good dash cam, and it’s admirable that Nextbase has managed to implement the Emergency SOS feature. The 222 is slightly larger than the 122 which allows it to have a larger screen and a wider camera angle at 140° instead of 120°.The range has been simplified slightly from the previous generation which offered WiFi and non-WiFi versions of the camera. In series 2, every device from the 322 upwards has both WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth. It is essential that you format your SD card every 2-3 weeks to delete the Protected filed and free up space on your memory card for new recordings.

The series 2 range of dashcams is the second generation of devices from Nextbase that were launched throughout 2019 and 2020. For the camera nerds, the 422GW has a better lens which has an f/1.3 aperture as opposed to f/1.6. Essentially, this means that more light enters the camera. That extra adjustment does have a big impact on the quality, especially under darker lighting. I couldn't agree more, we would 100% rather a customer ask than experience problems further down the line.They follow the same pattern as the series 1 range, with 6 devices covering every segment of the market from the budget 122 up to the highest spec 622GW. One of our favourite things about the series 2 dashcam range is that it’s really easy to understand. For every model you go up, from 122 through to 622, you’ll get more features or better specs. Image quality is excellent, even in low light conditions. The 412GW records in up to 1440P at 30 frames per second, but it’s perhaps at its best in 1080P at 60 frames per second, which provides extremely clear, crisp, fluid video.
