PerfectTed led by entrepreneurs, housemates and best friends, Marisa Poster and brothers Teddie and Levi Levenfiche, have created Europe’s first matcha green tea-powered canned energy drink.On top of focusing on simple ingredients, PerfectTed also prioritizes transparency and sustainability in its business model—starting with its supply chain. Typically, a café would buy matcha from a domestic wholesaler, who had bought the product from a wholesaler in Japan. This multi–step chain often means less money for the farmer who originally grew the tea leaves, and it creates a disconnect between the business and suppliers that makes it difficult to verify ingredient quality. JD: You recently received GBP50,000 from the UK investor TV show Dragons’ Den. What’s that cash being used for and any plans for further funding rounds? MP: From the beginning, we weren’t actually targeting the Red Bull consumer, because we felt the Red Bull consumer would continue to drink Red Bull and maybe isn’t as keen to adopt healthier options or they just aren’t as aware. So, we were kind of looking to that coffee drinker to substitute their second or third cup of coffee. Now we’re actually finding and we’re getting such an influx of messages from people saying ‘I saw you on the shelves at Tesco, I was about to reach for a Monster, but yours was really appealing with your fruity flavours and your green tea energy.’ Marisa added: "We want to be the largest natural energy and matcha brand globally. We're already making strong moves and already available in nine countries." It causes conversation to come about because people are like: ‘Is it PerfectTed or is it perfected?’ We really like the discourse that comes with it.

I have suffered with ADHD and anxiety for years and I used to consume loads of caffeine from coffee and energy drinks during college," she said.Mr Levenfiche added that “Steven Bartlett especially was a big inspiration to us in starting the brand. For us to get such a positive response from him and for him to say how much he respected us as entrepreneurs meant the world.”

Since launching, PerfectTed has generated listings in more than 500 stores across the UK and Ireland, as well as launching internationally in nine other countries, including Hong Kong, Singapore, the UAE, France, and more. The investment comes as PerfectTed launched in 1,200 Tesco stores and is included in the supermarket’s meal deal.

Dragons are slayed by young energy drink entrepreneurs

Three short weeks ago, we launched the UK's first matcha-powered, all-natural, lightly sparkling energy drinks, available in three different flavours: (1) pineapple yuzu, (2) apple raspberry, and (3) pear ginger! He and his brother Levi met Ms Poster, originally from New York, when they all attended university in Pennsylvania. The trio identified a business opportunity for a healthier plant-based energy drink that avoids the post-caffeine crash often associated with other energy drink brands. But after finding the perfect matcha, the last thing they wanted to do was add a bunch of preservatives and sweeteners to create their on–the–go option.
