About this deal

The Royal Mint celebrated the longest royal marriage in British history with a collection of coins, struck for the occasion. This Pre-Owned 1972 Elizabeth and Philip Silver Proof Crown Coin was issued to commemorate the 25th wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. Despite being produced in their millions and being available at face value from most post offices and banks, the ordinary business strike was a Royal Mint commemorative issue and not intended for general circulation. In celebration of their wedding, this collection includes a full set of the British coins from their wedding year, 1947, along with the stamps and crown coin issued to commemorate their first major wedding anniversary in 1972. Britain had only just completed decimalisation in 1971, it may have been sensible, with hindsight, to have shown the new decimal equivalent - 25 New Pence - on this and subsequent crown issues.
