About this deal

The minifigures and mini builds in the LEGO Marvel Studio's Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar 2022 are compatible with all other LEGO Marvel building toys, allowing kids to enjoy the fun Christmas presents all year round. The LEGO Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar box measures over 10 in. (26 cm) high, 14.5 in. (38 cm) wide and 2.5 in. (7 cm) deep. Contains 268 Pieces. Despite giving a daily recap of each of the LEGO® Advent Calendars for the last few years, I’ve never actually reviewed one, until now. Last year, the long-running LEGO Advent Calendars range expanded to include a Marvel-themed one. It was focused on the Avengers and featured a mix of minibuilds and minifigures inspired by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. This year’s offer is a little more intergalactic and is inspired by the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Disney+ Holiday Special. The exact story of this small screen spin-off is currently unknown but it’s safe to assume it will be at least a little festive. This year, we have a special twist with the Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar, which is a direct tie-in to the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which is now streaming on Disney+

The box has incredibly detailed illustrations of festive Star Wars scenes and we like the fact that once opened, the playmat of this advent calendar immediately lies flat on the table, without having to put anything heavy on top of it. The instructions for each mini figure and/or build are highlighted clearly on the inside of each mini door, you’ll find nine characters including Emperor Palpatine, an Ewok and a Pit Droid in Christmas outfits, a Gonk Droid dressed as a reindeer and Omega with a sledge. I really hope Day 13 improves, as this has been a really hit and miss Advent Calendar, with more misses than hits! What sets it apart is the sheer number of pieces it offers, making it the most generous in terms of creative possibilities. Furthermore, it strikes a good balance between the holiday spirit and the Star Wars theme, infusing each day with the magic of Christmas while exploring the epic galaxy. This unique blend provides hours of imaginative and inter-generational play, making it a must-have addition to the festive season. How do I choose a LEGO advent calendar? We FINALLY get a decent build out of the GOTG Advent Calendar with Day 18’s sensational Milano Spaceship. Here we are with Day 11 of the LEGO Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar with a Mining Pod and Escape pod! Looking at the excellent ship designs we’ve been getting in the Star Wars Advent Calendar , I don’t think it’s a lot to ask for a more sophisticated design that truly mimics and does The Guardians’ Ship design justice. It’s also a nice homage to a LEGO GOTG set from 2017, 76080 Ayesha’s Revenge which featured the Laser Drill and Yondu.

Honestly, it’s quite bland like Turkey (sorry to all the Turkey fans, but ham is better), and feels like it should’ve been paired with another build as it’s not substantial at all, or very GOTG. Kids can mix the gifts to recreate their favourite scenes from the Marvel movies, imagine new adventures or combine with other LEGO Marvel sets From left to right, we have Yondu’s Arrow, an Annulax Battery (from GOTG Volume 2), a Quarnyx Battery (from the Prison Scene in GOTG 1), an eyeball that he gets Baby Groot to collect, and the prisoner’s prosthetic leg from the same Prison Break scene in GOTG 1. We also love that the last three days of the calendar include different pieces to build a supersonic sleigh on day 24 – a great collector’s piece which will be a firm favourite in any child’s collection. On Day 14, we get a big orange ship, aka The Guardians’ Ship aka The Benatar. It’s not the best-looking ship, although it does capture the general look of the Guardians’ Ship with its shape and unmistakeable colour scheme.

That initial attempt at a LEGO Marvel advent calendar covered a wide array of characters both cosmic and street-level, but this time the focus is solely on the Guardians of the Galaxy to tie in with their upcoming holiday special, which streams on Disney+ later in 2022. The design team behind 76231 Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar understood the brief, filling the doors with references to the team’s Marvel Cinematic Universe adventures and the usual seasonal models. The holiday season is fast approaching, and that means new LEGO Advent Calendars! New for 2022, we now have our very first detailed look at two new sets – 76231 Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar and 75340 Star Wars Advent Calendar, which should be released on 1 September 2022, as is tradition.

Here’s a look at the completed ship! It’s pretty good, and has space for one minifigure to pilot it, but overall, it feels like they could’ve squeezed it into 2 days instead of 3, wasting precious spots close toward the end of the Advent Calendar.

LEGO Guardians of the Galaxy Advent calendar 2023 (76231) :

There’s a mix of miniature ships including the Milano and Benatar behind some of the doors, and smaller ships referencing other films too. In the potential context of the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, these could easily be toys and their builds are surprisingly challenging for how few pieces they use. That’s no bad thing, as it helps extend the building time for select days. And that’s it for the Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar! To be honest, I’m mostly disappointed by the Calendar, mostly because of strings of forgettable days and builds, with items that were a stretch to connect to Christmas, the Guardians of the Galaxy or even the Holiday Special.
