High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (or HDCP) is a copyright protection mechanism that’s built into all modern HDMI-based video devices. It extends 1x HDMI source to 4x HDMI displays over a single Cat6/7 cable up to 30m away from the source. So a switcher lets you switch between different HDMI signals, while a splitter lets you split one HDMI signal out to several screens. The QU-12S Distribution Amplifier (splitter) accepts one HDMI input and splits this signal to two identical outputs. Due to its smaller size this splitter is only able to transmit a signal to two other displays which some may find a little lackluster.Make sure that your HDMI switcher is compatible if you are routing the output of the switcher through a home theater receiver that provides decoding for advanced audio formats, such as Dolby TrueHD, Atmos, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS:X. It is also fully HDCP (an anti piracy protocol) compatible so there shouldn’t be any issues using it.
