During the 1980s, Moore also played Hamer and PRS guitars, as well as Charvels equipped with Floyd Rose tremolos and EMG pickups. Impressed with his ability to interact with audiences, the competing and older Columbia Broadcasting System ( CBS) offered him his own show on the new visual medium.

On an episode of the show that September, guests Viola and Stephen Armstrong appeared with the secret that their son Neil had been selected as an astronaut by NASA that day. Once again, Lynott lured him back into the Lizzy fold, but Lynott was becoming increasingly dependent on drink and drugs, and the band was subsiding into chaos.

As it's observed at Moore's premature funeral at age 58: "There's not one person here who hasn't had a row with Gary. Over the course of his career he played in various groups and performed a range of music including blues, blues rock, hard rock, heavy metal and jazz fusion. Beginning in 1949 and through the mid-1970s, Moore was a television host on several variety and game shows.

Here was a guitarist of quite exceptional talent, driven to great artistic heights both by his natural abilities, and by his insecurities, fathoms-deep canyons of doubt that could cripple him, who could be extremely difficult and arrogant, often letting his mouth rule his head with untethered comments that, over the years, won him few friends in the industry. A string of solo albums around this time included Corridors of Power (1982), Victims of the Future (1983) and Run for Cover (1985). Moore hosted the series from its premiere until the midway point of the 1976–77 season, the revival's eighth. The following year, he took yet another look back at the blues influences from his past with Blues for Greeny, a collection of cover versions of songs written by or associated with Green.Later he used a variety of effects by T-Rex, an Ibanez TS-10 Tube Screamer Classic and a Marshall Guv'nor, the last of which was featured most notably on "Still Got the Blues". Harry Shapiro has done a terrific job, the detail is rich, and you really feel you get to know the man behind the guitar. Moore is survived by his sons Jack and Gus from his first marriage, and his daughter Lilly from a recent relationship.
