The feel-good part of the story didn’t last much longer. Hours after they move in, Jess received a threatening message in a card (which mysteriously disappeared before she could show it to Ben), and she was hurt when she discovered Ben, Rob, and Carol decided (without her input) to take down the fence between the two houses. Things continued to go downhill from there, and Jess became increasingly suspicious of everyone around her. But I can't pretend it's all in my head when a false accusation is made against me that could destroy my life - and Toby's - forever. If for one minute anyone thought this was going to be one extended blissful family they are more than wrong....and when the accusations start,cruel and nasty ones and people's hidden agendas come to the fore anything could and does happen

Jane inherited her mother’s strength even though she does not recognise this inner quality. I loved her determination to save Ashleigh, despite Ashleigh’s claims of not needing to be saved. Now I can’t help but think someone doesn’t like what’s happening under our two roofs. Or perhaps someone doesn’t like there being a wife next door… I really wasn't invested in any of these characters and didn't like Jess (the narrator). The plot is flat and very nonsensical. I also felt that the storyline was super obvious. It takes away from the reading experience when you figure it out before you even know what has happened!

This was a character-driven, slow burn of a book that allows the reader to be taken down meandering paths of what its truth and what is deception and manipulation.I was swallowed whole by “The Wife Next Door” just like Alice in Wonderland and along with the many red herrings and rabbit holes I found this book to be a highly entertaining journey. Rob and Jess split up but are not officially divorced because she's astonishingly posted paperwork for finalizing the split that never arrives at the solicitors and more astonishingly doesn’t follow up. He has moved on with Carol, a client of Jess' mum. They are already planning their wedding. They move in next door to Jess and her new love interest Ben and the fence between the two properties is torn down.Strange things start to happen. Nasty notes get left in Jess' home. Mugs are smashed. A tyre slashed,. Keys missing etc...etc. This is an amazing suspense story that weaves through past and present. A story of secrets, friendships, and the fallout of violence in the home. I'm intrigued. Why is your neighbour a vet while your husband is an exact? Has he inherited money or have you (or your husband) trumped things up?

A couple is getting divorced. Both parties have amicably moved on in life and found other partners. Everyone involved seems to get along well. In fact, they all become close "friends". For the children's convenience, both couples agree to move and live next door to one another. (Yes, you read that right!) They all "think" this is a great idea. What could possibly happen? I did not care for everyone ganging up on Jess. Other than the whole bruise thing, Jess makes mostly good decisions. If anything, it’s everyone else that’s gaslighting and manipulating her. Turns out, A LOT could go wrong! In Rona Halsall's The Wife Next Door, what starts as an ideal setup turns scary when a note appears, keys go missing, and a false accusation is brought into the mix. The ending was brilliant and very unexpected which I always love. It has made me want to re-read the book again to see if I could have guessed earlier. And then Ashleigh disappears, and Jane catches Evan digging a grave-shaped trench in his garden – could something more sinister have happened in the house next door?

As the description states, “ Two houses. Two front doors. One family. Nothing can possibly go wrong… This one left a burning in my gut that wasn't just acid. From the start it was a bit of a mystery. The prologue had no names so all that was known was it was a woman in danger. The living arrangement was bizarre for me. The calm just friends split that decide to live right next door to each other for the sake of their son? I don't see it. All the pet peeves and strain would've been already there with he whole love to hate scale.
