About this deal

Elderly horses or those recovering from ill health or surgery would benefit from Coligone Liquid or Powder being fed on a daily basis. If your horse’s condition and work level mean they need more energy or ‘calories’ than forage alone can provide, it’s best to supply that through sources of highly digestible fibre like Coligone Fibre Bio or Coligone Fibre Cubes, alongside grass chop to encourage chewing. Feeding more varied forages, like mixed meadow hay, haylage and chopped meadow grass during winter when horses are stabled more, will create more forage diversity and help promote a rich, diverse hindgut microbial population and optimise your horse’s hindgut health. A combination of Yea sacc and MOS/FOS Prebiotics encourage hind gut fermentation and actively stimulate fibre digesters, leading to effective fibre digestion.

Research has shown that live yeast supplementation can improve lactation in mares and the broad-spectrum mineral availability in Coligone Powder not only boosts digestive health but also bone strength, hoof and coat condition and general well-being in both mare and foal. Weaning Foals – It’s all about Damage Limitation

About Coligone & H Bradshaw's

Excellent for use on a daily basis for horses which suffer the side effects of excessive gastric acid. Coligone's unique action coats the stomach and provides a buffer-raft, to protect the delicate upper areas of the stomach from excessive gastric acid. Coligone Powder is a soothing digestive supplement designed to be administered daily with feed. Contains active natural ingredients, including FOS and MOS prebiotics to support a healthy digestive tract. About Coligone:

Coligone is gentle enough for use on foals – It is extremely good for foals which aren’t thriving or are scouring. Feed the recommended amount by oral syringe twice daily until the scouring ceases. Suitable for use when training, competing & travelling or during times of stress/ill health where disturbance of the microflora has occurred within the digestive tract. Use during periods where gastric acid levels are high & saliva production is low. It is ok to feed medication at the same time as Coligone, but always ask your vet’s opinion. Coligone has been reported to help fussy feeders eat “Bute” and Antibiotics, the strong aniseed smell/taste covers up any sounds of medication. 11. My foal is scouring, will Coligone help? Feed Coligone Liquid or Powder on a daily basis if your horse has digestive issues to help maintain a healthy digestive tract. The fibre in forage gets broken down through a process of fermentation by billions of microbes in the hindgut, collectively known as the hindgut microbiome. These provide a source of energy for your horse for work and condition, but also releases heat, keeping your horse warm from the inside out. This central heating will help maintain condition and the better quality the forage; the more heat is generated. Feeding Coligone, which maintains natural acid balance within the digestive tract, may assist in such circumstances.

Contains natural active ingredients, including a Seaweed Buffer to assist with excess gastric acid. FOS & MOS prebiotics, and yea sacc to help maintain a healthy balanced digestive system. The main aim is to ensure that the whole process is as stress free as possible and teh key to this is preparation. Correct preparation and diet can lesson the impact of the foal’s digestive system as the balance of the microflora within the foal’s gut can easily be unbalanced by stress, which can result in scouring and invasion by bad bacteria. Coligone works on excess gastric acid, the ingredients disperses gases in the hind gut, maintains healthy gastric acid levels, soothes and coats the digestive tract provides a buffer-raft, which sits on the stomach contents and guards the delicate upper areas of the stomach from gastric irritation. 4. Can I feed Coligone continuously? Or will it harm my horse? Coligone is free of any prohibited substances and as such is ok to be used whilst competing under BSJA or FEI rules. 7. My horse is elderly and has terrible trouble with his digestive system, will Coligone help him? If your horse needs extra feed to maintain condition during the winter, make any dietary changes gradually to help prevent digestive upset. Ideally changes should be made over 2-3 weeks, to allow the gut microbes time to adjust and maintain a healthy hindgut throughout.Horses that are struggling to hold weight and condition during the winter will often need extra feed but to keep their hindgut healthy it’s important to keep starch from cereals to a minimum or avoid altogether. Horses have a limited capacity to digest starch in the small intestine. Undigested excess starch from cereals can reach the hindgut and cause imbalances in the microbiome, leading to microbial dysbiosis which can result in hindgut acidosis. Hindgut acidosis is a consequence of the rapid growth of certain types of lactic acid producing bacteria. The increased lactic acid causes a drop in pH and results in a more acidic environment. This can lead to inflammation of the hindgut membrane and potentially laminitis or colic. A combination of Yea Sacc and MOS/FOS Prebiotics encourage hind gut fermentation and actively stimulate fibre digesters, leading to effective fibre digestion.
