Differences Between The Models I may have gotten a return item because the truss rod cover is chipped and there are surface scratches from strumming. The guitar is not the best choice for more experienced guitarists looking for a solid guitar to play live performances or make recordings. Although the sound is excellent for a budget guitar, I’m not sure it would satisfy an experienced player looking for specific characteristic sounds. I can’t deny it…I just love cheap guitars that are actually good. When you have bought a guitar and find out that it offers outstanding value for the money, it’s a good feeling.You might have gotten even more than you paid for.

The Donner DAG-1C has a laminated Spruce top with a special x-bracing design. This allows it to enhance the resonance offered by the Spruce top, so you can barely tell that the sound comes from a laminated tonewood. The truss rod cover is impossible to remove with the strings in place. Not a big deal as I often loosen the strings and spread the 3rd and 4th strings apart anyway if I need to tighten a truss rod, but it’s kind of a stupid design. This full-width guitar comes with a dreadnought body that makes it comfortable to hold, regardless of your playing position. It also comes with a set of special coated dura-tone strings that are soft and easy to strum. This combination of features makes it the ideal guitar for serious learners.

The guitar has an 18.1” (460 mm) long fretboard with dot inlays on 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th, 15th, and 17th frets. The good-looking frets were well polished and without many sharp edges out of the box. With some exceptions (see cons), the overall fit and finish is good, particularly at this price point. But are Donner guitars like this? Or are they just cheap Chinese-made axes that don’t deserve any attention from us? Well, you’re about to discover the truth.

One of the most important things for me and my small hands is the playability of the guitar. And I was pleasantly surprised by the playability of this donner. The tuners are the worst I’ve ever seen. I mean they hold tuning fine, but they have enormous gear slop when you change directions, and sometimes feel gritty when turning. My main consideration is the body itself. The top is very thin carbon fiber (so they say). The body seems to be ABS. Examining the inside, there is no bracing of consequence. There are only two 1/8" finger braces across the body, each radiating from a bridge plate. They are a good 1" short of meeting the sides. In fact, under the stress of standard tuning the top deflects 1/8" just above the bridge towards the bass side. Any more deflection would affect intonation and possibly cause separation at the top edge. It would seem that one of the main functions of carbon fiber would be to resist bending. The top to side lining is partially kerfed on corners but mostly just a thin strip of plastic. There is plenty of cement squeeze out and run. Donner guitars are ideal for beginners from the value standpoint. Guitars often come with accessories or even all that you need to get started. Donner guitars are also usually easy to play, versatile, and sound good. Donner DAG-1CS the sunburst color option of the DAG-1C model. The only difference between these two guitars is that the 1C model features a natural wood color while the CS model has a sunburst color.While briefly swapping strings to try a lighter set (which did not change the setup, probably thanks to the carbon fiber), one of the bridge pins snapped off. I was using a Music Nomad bridge pin puller, not some makeshift tool. Fortunately, I had a few spare pins.
