There should be one of these types of boiler filling loops under your Vaillant combi boiler, if not then it will be an external filling loop. Vaillant boiler filling loop closed This is a common fault on Vaillant Ecotec boilers and is caused by the expansion vessel losing its charge.

Having been reading various threads here and from watching the boiler this morning I think I have gotten close to the problem.Another cause could be the expansion vessel has lost its air and needs to be recharged or replaced. Open a drain-off valve on the Vaillant boiler or central heating system with a hose attached and let the pressure drop.
