I read an eARC courtesy of Razorbill/Penguin Young Readers Group via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. Agent 9 is impulsive and rather disaster-prone, with a tendency to blow things up and forget vital pieces of equipment. On probation, Agent 9 is promised one last crime-busting chance by big boss O (a very literal BIG boss - O is a huge orangatan, to be exact).The serious ecological message of melting ice caps is nicely conveyed amidst the madcap adventure and James Bond-style gadget action. I've worked as an artist in the animation industry for companies like Disney, Warner Brothers, and Nickelodeon. Fast-paced, fun and with bags of appeal through Agent 9's determination to win through against the odds, the story will keep readers gripped.

Author James Burks started out as an animator for animated movies such as The Iron Giant, The Emperors New Groove, and Treasure Planet to name a few, as well as working on recent animated tv shows such as The Powerpuff Girls Reboot and Bravest Warriors. Agent 9 and their robot fish partner Fin beg for one more chance to prove themselves and be officially taken off probation. Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling.At the start of Flood-a-geddon, Agent 9's very role as a super spy is under threat due to all the previous mission mishaps. Agent 9 bolts, bounds, and —more often —explodes through every hilarious page in this welcome new addition to the spy genre. Not only are the graphics crisp, dramatic and exciting, but the storyline and characters very funny.

There was a lot in this that reminded me of The Incredibles and Penguins of Madagascar movies, so fans of those will definitely LOVE this. Don't hate me for thinking the thing is a male, though – it's certainly going to be over-thinking the whole book to discuss it much anyway. Full of bombastic action and adventure that will make every child laugh out loud, plus a fantastic cast of spies and villains. The plot is fantastic fun and laugh-out-loud - the author clearly delights in using the narrative clichés of this genre with the bumbling secret agent and the super villain who can't resist blurting out his evil genius plan far too soon.Polly Crosby tells ReadingZone about her novel, This Tale is Forbidden (Scholastic), a fractured fairy tale set in a dystopian world.
