About this deal

My favourite moment so far, was when someone used the clue ‘Jake Gylenhaal’ when playing their card. Being in the possession of some sort of rabbit/human hybrid beast of a card, gave me a fantastic opportunity. Of course, they could have been referencing anything about Jake Gylenhaal, but to my delight, I had assumed correctly, as they had indeed also chosen a card with some sort of rabbit creature in a reference to the film Donnie Darko. Knowing which of the creepy rabbit cards was mine, gave me a very satisfying opportunity for point scoring.

The base game features a total of 84 cards that each have a unique and abstract image of the wildest things you could ever imagine. The object of the game is to be the first player to reach 30 points. Example: Tom has voted for image number 3 as have 5 other players. Tom would normally score 6 points, but since the maximum number of points scored is limited to 5, he'll only score 5, the maximum, this turn. Chris though, has voted with Amanda for image number 2. Unfortunately, that image was chosen by the storyteller with the red vote token, so they score no points. Kate has voted for an image which got no votes other than her own. She therefore scores no points. As for differences, there’s actually very few, with most of the game playing the same way as it does as the 4-6 player count, with each player getting two voting tokens each this time and a slight difference in how scoring is done. What they say can take various forms: it can be made up of one or several words, or even be nothing more than an onomatopoeia. It can be invented from scratch or take the form of works already existing (a line or two from a poem or song, the title of a movie or some other work, a proverb, etc)..

Dixit Party - for 6 to 12 players

Once all the points are assigned, it’s time for a new storyteller to give a title. In my group, we make it so that those who already gave a title have to wait until everybody has had a chance to be the storyteller. Image cards that were guessed incorrectly prior to the correct guess are taken off the tableau and placed in front of the active player. I'm not looking for opinions here, rather I'm after facts about the different games that may help decide which one is right for us.

Each player (except for the storyteller) then secretly guesses which picture was the storyteller 's, using numbered voting chips. Each voting player cannot vote for the card(s) they had selected for the tableau. For games with seven or more players (under the Odyssey rules), each voting player may vote for a second image. [5] Once the votes have been revealed, scoring is based on the number of votes that correctly guessed the storyteller 's card. Each player other than the storyteller scores 1 bonus point for each vote earned by his or her image (to a maximum of 3 bonus points). The game ends when each player has been storyteller 1 time. The player with the most points is the winner. 3 Player Game

Voting players who selected the storyteller 's card and only voted once receive a bonus point, for 7+ player games under Odyssey rules. [5] All of these cards are shuffled together and placed on the table. Then everyone tries to guess which is the storyteller’s card. If you haven’t played Dixit yet, the basic gist of the game is that there will be a storyteller each round, and they will declare a card from their hand with a vague hint while the other players also try to match that hint with one of their cards, with the storyteller aiming to have their card be figured out by at least one player, but not everyone, with the main draw of the game being the wonderfully illustrated cards with surreal imagery, making the vague hints needed even more vague by way of the artwork alone. The storyteller shuffles his card with all the received cards. He then randomly places them face up on the table. A new 84 cards, with a new artist, this time it’s Marina Coudray. These cards are absolutely stunning, and when they were first released they changed the gold highlights to gold foil. So that the cards shined in the right light. Dixit: Harmonies In any other case, the storyteller scores 3 points as does any player who has found the storyteller's image. Each team takes a voting board and then places the rabbit of the corresponding color on the 0 space of the scoreboard. The 84 image cards are shuffled and 4 are dealt to each player. The remaining image cards form the draw pile. The thing is, Dixit doesn’t quite work as magically with 3 players, but will still provide a fun time if you really can’t convince one other person to play it with you, and each player will then always have 7 cards at the end of each turn. When players take full advantage of the clue-giving freedom within Dixit, it becomes the best game in my collection. As downright hilarity ensues when you see the pictures revealed for clues such as ‘my last Tinder date’, and ‘what Dave looks like in the morning’.Dixit Oddysey is nearly the same as original Dixit when it comes to rules. As far as I remember it has all the rules the original had, plus some additions for bigger number of players. It also has a set of pieces for greater number of players (up to 12, I think). The biggest difference are the actual cards - those are entirely new when compared to original. Journey introduces a new artist into the mix. While Marie Cardouat uses broad brush strokes and it’s very clearly a painting.
