About this deal

Whilst the story is mainly being told by Eleanor, the daughter of author Frank Churcher, we get small glimpses into the past and through different eyes, which reveal those pieces of the puzzle we may not have anticipated. That said, if you’re looking for a haunted house story with a more solid ending, I’d recommend Lock Every Door which came out earlier this year by Riley Sagar, over this one. He is not happy with Sarah’s investigation into Ambergate and advises her to leave the past alone but Sarah is unable to do this. My take is that there’s no evidence that points to her being let out of jail so my assumption is no she does not get out of jail.

The concepts go from the simple actions of just being still, to finding hobbies that make you be in the present moment and the joy of building things with your own hands. Then, a reminder about keeping your ego in check, embracing obstacles, and trying to stay still for a minute can only benefit you in the long run. but he said “not that it matters anymore“ indicating to me that they probably executed her or that she died somehow with the secret intact.In this case, a treasure hunt book that's now 50 years old, involves a quest to re-assemble a skeleton, has a world-wide, obsessive fan base, and has shaped the lives of two close families—one the author/illustrator's, the other his best friend's. I come to really like and admire her especially her frequent wry tone but most especially her love and loyalty to her ‘stepdaughter’ Billie who is a shining light among characters with somewhat dubious morals. Stillness is the Key found me in a particular time of my life, - and the same will apply to many others, I believe -, in which there’s very little time to pause, sit still and consider my life.

I guess I would still recommend this book for people who like mystery-thrillers, but I’d describe The Turn of the Key as a fairly run-of-the-mill entry into this genre. I also realized that the crucial clue was that Maddie didn’t scream or yell, nor did she protect her head with her hands, which would be instinctive. Kinda a side thought but – So are we suppose to believe Maddie was the one tending to the poison garden? The necklace she had that went missing was the only gift he ever sent to Rachel, which she always wore.So Rachel was murdered (and not necessarily quickly, considering she was surrounded by hardened criminals). This digs up the past for Nell in a very unpleasant way, which also happens to threaten the safety of her foster child. I finished the book knowing that I will have to get back to it in a few weeks, so I can actually consider every chapter and take those lessons from the book to my life.

Along with sex, drugs, booze and not much rock ‘n’ roll we view dysfunction personified with the Churchers and the Lalleys which is entertaining reading. Now that very dysfunctional family: the adulterer Frank, very narcissistic Cora, their next door neighbors/ long time friends/ also in laws ( their children were married with each other) and their children, grandchildren gather all together at family estate where the documentary crew filming their entire celebration. The mother of those children was unrealistic at best careless at worst and I find it hard to believe that any mother would allow an absolute stranger near her children regardless of age. I hope that my words express what I think, and I am able to thank those who are with us always, in our thoughts.But when Nell's life, and by extension young Billie's life, is threatened by Frank's desperate need to always be in the spotlight, the centre of attention, the Churcher and Lally clans circle the wagons in an attempt to control the frenzy Frank has unleashed upon them, with unforeseen consequences. On July 8th, 2019 he placed Rachel’s letters into a packet along with a letter to Richard McAdams who was in charge of “Ashdown Construction Services”. Instead of creaky doors and candlelight blowing out, there’s technology that malfunctions and user setting that are messed up so that lights don’t turn on.
