The illustrations, are basic but beautiful and Elma’s patchwork colours were the biggest selling point for my daughter when she was younger than one, but then gradually becoming more interested in the other elephants and animals as she grew up. But he gets a bit self-conscious about the fact that he looks different, so he disguises himself by rubbing himself witih elephant-coloured berries. They are all grey – whereas he is remarkably dissimilar with patchwork with lots of different colours!
