About this deal

This golf ball by Titleist is more popular than the Left dash model because of its spinning capability and better air dynamics. The spherically tiled tetrahedral dimple design is 348, higher than the other. Tour players one hundred percent strike the ball better than I do, so won’t suffer with the low spin numbers I produced. I was surprised that a ball that feels so firm could produce such high-spinning numbers, and I’m starting to see why tour players use this ball. Short version – it became readily apparent that what I was seeing was likely attributable to the cut itself. I’ve been a standard Pro V1 user for basically 12 years, and I’ve gained a fair amount of speed in the last 12 months, so I wondered if a move to a different Pro V1 model might help my scores out on the course.

Of the three performance golf balls the AVX offers the lowest flight, lowest spin, and a soft feel. My gamer for years have been the Pro V1x. The last 5 rounds I switched to the V1 and my last 5 rounds were in the 70's. Due to the increasing demand for low-spinning Golf balls, Titleist introduced the Pro V1x left dash in recent years.

Pro V1x Left Dashis for players who are looking for lower spin on all shots. It features flight characteristics very similar to Pro V1x (high flight),and a higher compressiondesign,which deliver both lower spin and a firmer feel than both Pro V1 and Pro V1x. My worry is that the feel will be substantially harder than what comes off the Bridgestone. But that would be something that works itself out when you get around the chipping area for a bit and putt with it. All the balls performed really well. The V1x missed my target the most. All balls that hit the green never really ran out more than 5 feet. Again the -V1x was loud. For those that don’t know, the left dash is a “tour” only ball that you won’t find at your typical golf store on the shelf. At least not here. Can you play aggressive low flighted chips with one hop first bounce, grip on the second and gently release out kind of flight? High-speed tour players hit the ball so hard and compress it so much that they need a ball that doesn’t just melt into the face of a driver or spin up too much, the Left Dash Pro V1x is the right solution to their problem. Outside of this elite group, however, the ball doesn’t have a massive following, which is why Titleist has been content to keep it on Tour. With the release of low launch/spin AVX last year, Titleist now has a ball for every conceivable elite player profile. VelocityFordie Pitts, Titleist’s Tour Consultant for Golf Ball R&D, confirmed at the Shriners that Titleist’s goal with the new Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls was to make them “a little bit longer,” by reducing spin on high speed full shots. To avoid a tradeoff on short game performance, though, Pitts and team sought to keep the short game performance the same within 100 yards. As we discussed with our Q-Star Tour review, our compression consistency metric is an aggregation of two compression considerations. When we look at the average ball compression across the sample, we find a seven-point compression difference between the firmest and the softest. That’s not exceptional but it’s solidly in the average range. Standard deviations for the same metric place the ball in the “high average” range.
