Audio Commentary —Hear from the directors, writers, and executive producer as they dive into the making of the new film.A year on from the events of Scream, Sam (Melissa Barrera), Tara (Ortega), Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) have done the right thing and gotten the hell out of Woodsboro. However the best character is that of the film itself, easily surpassing them all as a surprising and very welcome franchise addition - in losing the humour, it gains a sense of brutality only hinted at in the last entry and notably absent in the Craven-directed films. Together with an increased emphasis on the construction of the set-pieces - here, more elaborate and brilliantly put together in terms of geography, tension and tone - the film becomes a terrifying beast, the audience feeling every vicious thrust of the blades that are so lovingly and gorily depicted. The kills are outstanding - from a fantastic opener that cleverly about faces so many of the genre's tropes to the horribly tense apartment escape that sees a ladder put to hair-raising use and on to the subway-set hiding in plain sight of so, so many Ghostface’s - the directors have taken much from Scream 2 here, but this increased focus on the gruesome death scenes is by far the most important.

Whatever the frustrations, it's always clear that directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have true reverence for the Scream franchise and it's safe in their hands. If they get to return for a third outing to complete a 'requel trilogy', though, hopefully all bets will truly be off. German, Spanish (Spanish and Latin American), French (French and Canadian), Italian and Japanese Dolby Digital 5.1 Working from a digital capture at a 3.4K resolution, it’s likely the theatrical digital intermediate (DI) is the same one used for the basis of this release. The disc (and its only a single disc, no 1080p disc is included in this set) houses a likely upscaled 3840 x 2160p resolution image in a theatrically accurate 2.39:1 aspect ratio that also utilises 10-bit video depth, WCG and both main HDR grades (HDR10 and Dolby Vision), all of which has been encoded using the HEVC/H.265 video codec.But maybe that was needed, to be the first wobbly step on the journey that would eventually lead us all to The Big Apple. A re-acquaintance to the franchise's iconography, it's tone and its personality (not just for a single film but for the five entries up to that point), a cinematic refresher to hook us all in and prime us for the real return of Ghostface to come. And return he most certainly did... And it looks like Ghostface has had a rough time of it because his mask looks a tad weathered and worn down. We should get it out of the way that franchise regular (and possibly favorite?) Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) isn’t in this film. Campbell let it be known that she didn’t like the offer she was given to appear in this film, so she declined. While I certainly wish she was here, these last two films have been more focused on the other characters. Sidney is at least mentioned, so that’s nice. A lot was said about this being the goriest entry in the Scream series. I wouldn’t try to debate that as there is quite a bit of blood and violence here. We catch up with Sam (Melissa Barrera) who has relocated to New York City where she keeps a too watchful eye on her half-sister, Tara (Jenna Ortega). It is understandable to some degree seeing as how they just suffered the loss of many, but it’s also normal for Tara to want to return to normalcy. We get much of the returning cast from the previous entry, and this includes franchise regular, Gale Cunningham (Courtney Cox). Also showing up here is Kirby (Hayden Panettiere) who was presumed dead in the 4 th film. Well, to be fair, her fate was a bit ambiguous and she’s now working for the F.B.I. We see in the opening sequence that Ghostface is still very much active. There are some nifty surprises early in the film. It throws a curveball or two at us, but then things slow down a good bit. And there lies one of my issues with Scream VI. I just don’t care about these characters as much as I did in at least the first two films. You could argue part 3 to some degree, but this just feels a bit too self-referential that it became tedious and annoying after a while. It also includes subtitles in English (English and HOH), German, Spanish (Spanish and Latin American), French (French and Canadian), Italian, Japanese and Dutch. Taking a cue from the 4K release of its predecessor, the image on this release gets everything just right. With the meta gags pared down from the previous couple of movies (although there are Easter eggs galore), the tone is darker and the kills feel more horrific. The movie does frustratingly pull its punches at times, though, which ends up at odds with Mindy's declaration that all bets are off this time around.Plot: What’s it about? Video: How’s it look? Scream fans in the UK have had to wait a little while, but the new movie is now available to watch into your homes again and again. And it seems that the subway will play a central role in the new film from Scream (2022) directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Where Scream 6 excels is in its set pieces. With the new sandbox to play in, we get an unpredictable subway ride (with our heroes split over two trains) and a tense stalk-and-shoot in a bodega. The standout, however, is Gale's showdown with Ghostface, giving Courteney Cox the best sequence she's had in a Scream movie in some time. They're all dealing with their trauma in their own ways, such as Tara choosing to not let three days ruin her entire life. But however they're moving on (or not moving on in Sam's case), their attempts at starting new lives are about to hit a dead end. Literally.
