Of course, Four Roses would like you to buy one of their four standard releases instead because they’re cheaper to produce and easier to find. One of those standard releases is what I’m reviewing today: Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon. Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon

Distillers Description: “This 10 Year 6 Month old Bourbon was bottled exclusively for the Four Roses Gift Shops. This Bourbon has a nose of vibrant baking spice and clove. Flavors of rich Vanilla and candied fruit fade into a long finish of light mint and caramel. Enjoy!” The Four Roses Single Barrel is made using a single barrel selection process. This means that each bottle is sourced from a single barrel, allowing for a unique flavour profile to be bottled. As each cask has its own unique characteristics, it makes single barrel whiskies such as these, much more unique. Nose: True to it’s high-rye mash bill, the first scents I find remind me distantly of a rye whiskey. Licorice/fennel notes combine with a nice amount of fruit like cherry and citrus. Pine needles and cinnamon give it a spicy and earthy aroma. Sweet notes like molasses and vanilla are also present. There’s not really much oak on the nose, but I do find some leather that lets me know of its age.I enjoyed the juice neat from a Glencairn with father and fellow Whiskey for the Ages reviewer, Brian. If you’re a bourbon fan, both the Four Roses Small Batch Select and Single Barrel expressions are worth your consideration. Both of these bourbons provide exceptional flavour profiles that can be appreciated by any level of connoisseur! The mashbill is 60% corn, 35% rye, and 5% malted barley. Heavy on caramel with more cinder toffee and some creamy fudge but all with an enjoyable spiciness from the high rye mashbill at the forefront of the flavor profile. There is some cherry and cinnamon in there too for good measure. This is a very good flavor profile and whilst not super complex you do get a lot of flavors considering the low price this bottle retails at. It’s very enjoyable indeed!
