About this deal

This label was established with the main aim to produce everyday wines that were a blend of style, tradition, elegance and international winemaking techniques. The vineyards where these grapes are grown benefit from the breezy winds from Lake Garda, ensuring the right temperature and humidity for perfect ripening. According to tradition, in 807 King Pipino offered the San Zeno monastery of Verona a church in Bardolino ( San Zeno) with its plots of land. They all belong to the Confraternita del Vino Bardolino, founded in1982 by local producers with the Protection Consortium sponsorship. Though the techniques are rooted in tradition, the team also mixes them with the newest trends to keep the quality consistently high.

It has a dry and sapid taste, lightly bitter but harmonic and fine, of great quality and sometimes depending on the settling time it could be lightly sparkly.

About 45% of the production comes from the Bardolino Classico region, but unlike its neighboring Veneto DOCs - Soave and Valpolicella - any terroir driven quality difference seems to be minimal between the wine produced in the classico region and that from the greater DOC zone. Bardolino Frescaripa, produced with the traditional Veronese grapes Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara in the Bardolino Classico area, is a light red with intense aromas thanks to the beneficial climate of Lake Garda. Located on the south eastern shores of Lake Garda, the classico zone surrounds the towns of Bardolino, Affi, Cavaion, Costermano, Garda, and Lazise.Two varieties of Bardolino are produced in this area: the Bardolino DOC in all its versions: “Bardolino DOC”, “Bardolino Classico DOC”, “Bardolino Chiaretto DOC”, “Bardolino Chiaretto Classico DOC”, “Bardolino Chiaretto Spumante DOC” and “Bardolino Novello DOC”; and the Bardolino Superiore DOCG (Designation of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin); they both obtained their mark in 1968.

Different grape varieties are used, although the most important one is the Corvina Veronese, a native variety of Bardolino, characterized by an excellent capability to adjust to the different soils of the Verona shore and hinterland. The Superiore is a stronger aged wine, and was promoted to Denominazione di origine controllata e garantita (DOCG) status in 2001. What helps to maintain this particular colour and taste is the decision not to use wood for the maceration process: instead, the winemakers use cement vats faced with glass tiles. The first written sources date back to the Early Middle Ages and they show the presence and trade of vineyards.After destemming and a gentle crushing, the must was macerated briefly on the skins before cold stabilisation. Bardolino Wein zeichnet sich durch fruchtige Aromen aus, darunter Kirschen, Beeren und oft eine dezente würzige Note. The scent is very winy and reminds very well the aroma of the must in the vats, it is lowly flavored and delicate. The Bardolino DOC is considered as the Venetian most representative wines to be drunk all along the meal.
