Happy New Year, Angela. I’m curious about these rereleases from Prism Parfums and appreciate your taking the time to review them, even if I haven’t smelled the originals. It’s nice to escape from department store sometimes and these sound just the thing.

Leather has always held a place in my heart in fragrances and I have Mentally “Nosed” a few, One was called Fleur de Cuir.I acquired a late 1960s Avon demonstrator sample box, so I've been doing a deep-dive into old Avons of that era. What I have noticed is that a lot of the Avons in production during that time were quite derivative of other popular perfumes of the era, and were perhaps created as near smell-alikes. Ha! The things we do for our kids. I can’t scent my linen cupboard with sandalwood soap (the really strong stuff you get from Indian grocers) because my son complains so much. The first slam of Unforgettable is loud/Occur-like/leather/musky/chypre, but then the floral tames it way way down. Then you have a light floral leather skin musk. I dream about being a Nose one day… I have thought of 100’s of scents in myriad combinations… I hope one day I get to realize some of them… And how stunning is that! This vintage bottle suits to a superb juice. I had in past two so similar to "Unforgettable", but muuuuch more expensive juices - vintage Miss Balmain and Jacques Fath's Ellipse. Both with super-strong personality, but I must tell you this fragrance is not far behind. Makes you feel polished, trimmed, chin up and go-ahead look. Mossy animalic leather, unapologetic at the start, as whole lot of 60-70-s formulas, "no-need for giggling" mode. But what happens next is a pure perfumery-magic - darkness dissolves and it is a dance of elegant cool florals, that live and act and breath together with you, yet soft leather touch at the base always remains with you, it is seriously beautiful complicated fragrance.

We fans of floral leather fragrances may be in the minority, but we’re passionate. There’s something about floral delicacy playing against rough, salty leather, and even better when the leather is softened by moss. If you love floral leathers, the Prism Parfums reissue of Geminesse won’t cause you to abandon your bottle of Chanel Cuir de Russie, but it’s worth a sniff — especially at its price. This is a very interesting scent, coming as it does in the mid-1970s, as it belongs more in the late 1940s-early 1950s. Of course, smelling vintage Geminesse is not the same as smelling Geminesse in 1974. (Are animalic notes like chili, where the heat builds over time?) The Prism Parfums release of Geminesse doesn’t smell like the vintage Geminesse I sampled. It’s less skanky and spicy, for one thing. But it’s still a floral leather. The perfume is much nicer than the 1964 .5 ounce cologne. It is wearable and reminds me of the original Miss Dior perfume (in the Baccarat amphora bottle); a musky chypre. Really nice but I agree with the previous reviewer that it does have a really sharp note. Could it be musk?Deutsch | Español | Français | Čeština | Italiano | Русский | Polski | Português | Ελληνικά | 汉语 | Nederlands | Srpski | Română | العربية | Українська | Монгол | עברית The carnation made me sneeze a little, but overall this was a VERY strong, warm, mossy and sexy leather-dominant fragrance, which I think could also be worn by men. Another Avon keeper to me, now I really determined to find out what else is hidden at the bottom-time of Avon line. Test 2: This sample is from a circa 1963 dram bottle ( glass cylinder with a brass screw-top) of perfume in the cutest box. The box design shows a woman's face on a sun/flower shape that wraps half the box with a corner of the box in the center of the face. The box has raised pattern of colored paisleyish embellishments that is very tactile and the whole thing is reminiscent of the art of Mary Blair. Unforgettable is a really strong chypre fragrance. It has a real mid-century vibe and I suspect it may be a copy of another popular fragrance from that time. I discovered Avon Rapture is a copy of Mitsouko but I am not sure what other fragrances Unforgettable smells like. I get oak moss and a little peach and some other stuff like sandalwood or myrrh.

I Love You Card - Valentines day card - Heart pattern - watercolor hearts A6 Square - Cute love card - Square Hermès Cuir d’Ange adds heliotrope to the mix, with a blend that is a distant cousin to that found in Esprit d’Oscar and the original Oscar de la Renta parfum. I get a leather note from both de la Rentas, particularly Esprit d’Oscar, though it’s not listed in the notes for either. Violet and heliotrope are, however, so I’m not sure if I’m smelling leather or if it’s facets of the violet translating as such.I bought a .5 ounce bottle of the cologne in a "snowflake" bottle (circa 1964). I tested it on a slip of acid-free resume paper. I wear a lot of vintage Guerlain, Chanel, and other French perfumes and vintage Guerlain colognes but I am a little shy about actually wearing old Avon cologne on my body. Besides the floral leathers I list here, I like Ann Gérard Cuir de Nacre, Balmain Miss Balmain, and Heeley Cuir de Pleine Fleur (and probably loads more I'm forgetting). The scent was launched by Max Factor in 1974, and was discontinued for many years before being relaunched in 2015 by Prism Parfums, who describe it as: Geminesse’s floral heart flattens to soapy orange blossom for me, and this is where it parts ways with some of my favorite floral leathers. Wet, earthy violet tempers Pierre Balmain Jolie Madame’s leather. Fuller white flowers with a touch of rose gives Diorling body. Woody spice adds dimension to Lanvin Scandal. I like the soft dampness of a fuller floral heart, or the clear statement of a tart green leather. Geminesse tosses aside romance and attitude and lands on plain old soapy leather.
