Using its sleek design and its 5000-mm polyurethane fly, the Scorpion 2 is able to deflect fierce winds and heavy rainfall, making this tent suitable for the harshest weather. Price – How much are you willing to spend? Depending on the tent features, size and weight, two person tents vary in price.

The Scorpion 2 tent from Snugpak is a sturdy 2-man tent that has been constructed to withstand harsh 4 season weather conditions. In terms of structure, this tent has aluminium poles, an internal layer that clips on easily and then the option of adding a flysheet on top for protection from the elements. Several unique features make this tent resistant to all weather camping. In-built mosquito nets are useful to keep bugs outside, and the outer layer of this tent is removable, which is a good option for keeping the interior temperature down on warm nights. For an easy setup and to keep the rain out, the groundsheet on this model is sewn in. With a 3000mm waterproof rating and taped seams, this tent can handle heavy rain, which is a must-have when you’re camping in the UK. Let’s say you see the group a mile off into the distance. The average walking pace for most people for a mile is somewhere around 15 minutes. With a Scorpion 2, that would give you a ten-minute head start. Inside Space Space – How much room do you need inside your tent? If you’re camping alone, a two man tent is more than enough room. If you’re camping with a buddy, you’ll have to take into consideration whether you’ll need the extra room or if a two man tent is spacious enough.The Scorpion 2™ IX will shelter you from the worst four-season weather, it has a 5000mm hydrostatic head (HH) polyurethane (PU) coated flysheet, with taped seams. The Scorpion 2™ IX has an impressive sleeping space, measuring 205cm/81" long and 110cm/43" wide, creating ample room for two people in a top-toe sleeping arrangement with an additional spacious front porch for extra storage. In an emergency, there is enough space to accommodate up to six people sitting down. The Scorpion 2™ IX is a true tried and tested favourite of mountaineers, climbers, campers & military personnel that protects you all year round from severe weather conditions. There is a hanging loop near the door of the inner tent, but unfortunately this ripped off when I was inspecting it. I’d also have to question the effectiveness of the storm-flaps on the outer zips: they’re held in place by one piece of Velcro and were blown open even in light winds. Snugpak Scorpion 2 Verdict You need a quality four-season tent if you are preparing a BOB. You never know when disaster is going to strike, and if you’re banking on it hitting during the warmer months, you’re really throwing the dice. In many places, warm weather only comes four months a year. Those aren’t odds that are in your favor. I recommend your BOB including shelter that is substantial regardless of what season it is.

On the down side of the vestibule is that it can only be unzipped from the bottom of the door. This is a bit of a reach and struggle in the middle of the night. That said, it’s a small down side to pay for a useful vestibule. Some of the vestibule configurations A Good Size – if your under 6ft! Putting up the Scorpion 2 was a fairly simple affair with colour-coordinated poles to help you get it right first time. I found the poles to be slightly fiddly to get through the sleeves – they got caught a few times – but this isn’t enough to put me off the tent. This tent gives you a fourth option. It has flaps outside of the tent to form a vestibule where you can store your stuff. So, if you’ve been hiking through the rain all day and don’t like the idea of bringing muddy boots inside with your sleeping bag, the problem’s solved. You just leave them under the outside gear cover. Again, that’s an incredibly cool feature.You could have all your gear dry, safe, and bug-free inside while still being able to feel like you’re not sleeping like Harry Potter under a cramped stairwell. A True Four-Season Tent Every tent that I’ve ever either bought or used has advertised itself to be a “two-man” or “four-man”, or what-have-you tent. They’re all liars. I suppose within the tent industry the engineers are all roughly four feet tall. Overall the Snugpak Scorpion 2 tent is a really nice tent. It’s easy enough to pitch in a few minutes and is quite a versatile.

The Scorpion 2 Tent gives you a robust expedition level shelter in the Snugpak Professional range. This versatile camping shelter is built around a super stable geodesic design which offers a practical living space with a low profile that holds up to the harshest of weather. The Scorpion 2 is not a tent for people over 6ft! If your under 6ft then you will find that there is quite a nice amount of room for 2 people, at it’s longest length it is just over 2m and its just under 2m at it’s widest. It’s not a square and it does taper though, as the footprint diagram shows. The Scorpion 2 features room enough for 2 occupants and kit with a front entrance and ample vestibule for added gear storage. A 5000mm hydrostatic-head flysheet provides storm protection with a bathtub style floor to protect against pooling in heavy rain.

The Quasar 200 has a large covered porch with a detachable groundsheet that’s lightweight and perfect for extra storage. The tent is lightweight at 2.65kg all-in and the design conveniently allows the parts to be split up and carried by different people. Performance The Scorpion 2 is can be pitched either fly first or as an all in tent. When you have overcome any pitching teething problems It’s pretty easy to set up, thanks to its colour coded poles (2 green and 1 grey) and robust hard wearing pole sleeves. However we found the Scorpion 2’s instructions to be quite unhelpful when it came to erecting the tent. The poles, as stated, are colour coded at one end only, but the 2 green poles which create the dome both have a slight bend at one end and it was not clear which way round they went as both ways seem to work. It was only after close examination of a photograph that we saw that the coloured end of the pole went towards the front of the tent. This was a little confusing we thought, hopefully you will now not have the same confusion!
