About this deal

In addition, the vehicle includes no fewer than five exclusive printed parts! The number plates allude to 76269 Avengers Tower and their flame yellowish orange colour matches the 'Empire Gold' plates found on many New York taxis. The designs on either side look appealing as well, complete with the same waving minifigure logo featured on the taxi in 76178 Daily Bugle. In fact, just the stairs and upper bar area would probably have done to 'sacrifice' parts. The taxi looks awesome, it's so nice getting vintage cars in Lego (and we rarely ever get them) so it's very annoying that they are all GWP these days. Under the bonnet you’ll find a very basic motor, using a 2×2 moulded engine element, it’s a very nice touch and one that LEGO didn’t really to include but glad they did. The other is the somewhat hidden boot/trunk inside the Taxi itself, located just behind the passenger seat. The included suitcase fits perfectly in this space and happily rests in place secured by the use of a 1×2 yellow cheese slope. The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author. Box and Contents I must say that this Minifigure is exclusive to the set, but as i mentioned above it’s only the combination that is unique as the printed torso and other parts have all been seen and used before in many other sets. This doesn’t detract at all from the wonderful design work LEGO have done on the Head and torso parts as that is top notch as always and done to their high standards.

Is he the driver or the passenger? If the former, is he moonlighting as a cabbie, and why does he have what is presumably luggage? If the latter, where's the driver? He's a shady-looking character who bears more than a passing resemblance to the newsstand operator and alleged doughnut thief in 10278 Police Station. In fact, there are baked goods in his case that further strengthen the clues to his identity. However, only one minifig? That's a plain rip off. The vintage car, sailboat etc. all had 2 minifigs. All these factors made it quite a bit easier for them to deal with the minifigure's awkward, unwieldy proportions. Regarding the 60312 police interceptor, my dad was a gearhead growing up in Detroit, and sometimes mentions that there was a car shop on Woodward Ave that could modify your car so even the cops couldn’t catch it. And then the cops took their cars to the same shop. The set comes with a single minifigure. Is he the driver of the cab? Is he a passenger? All we know for sure is that he has a 1×1 round printed donut tile in that suitcase. Another hidden detail…another mystery from the designers! The inclusion of the small strip of sidewalk makes this set feel more like a tiny vignette than “just” a car and driver. A second minifigure would have been a nice addition, though. You start of by constructing a portion of the pavement (sidewalk) which all sits upon 4×8 Tan plate. Covering the plate in matching dark grey tiles it will happily sit next to other LEGO Modulars, although it is a smidgen higher I don’t think that necessarily matters much. Having a portion of the pavement is a nice bonus although it does stand a little proud of the LEGO Modu baseplates. Maybe a MOC could remedy this and somehow build the Taxi rank into the Boutique Hotels walkway?Either that or he’s using this as a front to deliver doughnuts to high-flying guests staying at the Boutique Hotel. One thing that we can be sure of is that the vehicle looks great parked up outside this year's modular building, 10297 Boutique Hotel, and if you've yet to buy it, now would be a great time to do so while the car is free. Not if the passenger has any luggage (especially not the new air-friendly rolling suitcase). Driver’s got to have someplace to stash the giant lunch he’s carrying. Case in point: look at the van designs from 1687 or 6345. Both still use the old 1x3 vehicle doors, but because of the shape and size of the windscreen, the minifigure can't possibly exit the vehicle via the side doors, only by lifting the roof! It features a very simple signpost that resembles the colours of a traditional Taxi, yellow and orange, its a great addition to the base and gives it that extra little something. Alongside that is a green rubbish bin, inside you’ll find one of the relatively new ‘ poop‘ pieces, officially known as a Swirl, I can only guess that this particular bin is for Dog waste!

And that was for Amelia Earhart - an excellent set (also, more parts at a lower spending threshold) Overall the LEGO Vintage Taxi (40532) GWP set is great and well worth getting, although the spend limit needed is, in my opinion, way to steep and so makes the decision to grab a very difficult decision to make. The set comes with a small strip of pavement, with a small crossing light and a trash can. Inside the trash is a lump of poo. Is it some sort of commentary from the LEGO designers? Just a silly inclusion?

As is usual for minifig-scale cars nowadays there are no doors, so access to the interior is by removing the roof. Looking at the box design with the shared sand green strip, and the design of the taxi, and just how well it fits into the Boutique Hotel, it’s clear that LEGO probably meant for the Vintage Taxi GWP to be released alongside the Boutique Hotel at launch on 1 January, but supply chain delays probably meant that they couldn’t make the timing work. And truth be told, even at the standard of detail we've come to expect in adult-targeted sets like the Modular Buildings Collection, there's a LOT of stuff even in the buildings alike that gets "condensed" in one way or another due to the practical limitations of the scale.
