There is nothing I can write further that wouldn't be a spoiler. Not a word. It's a fantastic book if you are a sailor or like real-life adventure stories or even just want a good read that isn't like any other book. This author brings you right along with him and you'll often wonder if you could have survived the journey...or would you have succumbed to the wrath of the sea. I'd like to think I'd have been successful, but in all honesty I'm sure I wouldn't have made it past seven days.

An experienced sailor, Callahan´s small, well-equipped boat went down in a storm and he spent the next 76 days in a life raft, eating any fish he could catch and drinking whatever he could manage with tupperware boxes and sills.Amazingly, Ashcraft still loves to sail and “is a 100-ton licensed captain with more than 50,000 offshore miles” under her belt. I watched the movie first, and it wasn’t bad at all. In the movie as well as the book she didn’t seem too concerned with bailing the boat out. Just to have something to occupy my time I think that I would have been pumping my brains out as well as cleaning up that cabin to have a more comfortable time of it. The whole bit about rationing water is also lousy information in a survival situation. I was taught at the USAF survival school in Spokane, Washington, to ration your sweat, not your water, meaning to take it easy during the daylight hours but drink as much water as you need. Drinking a cap-full of water every two days like they do in the movies will just dehydrate you faster. Here is a helpful through-line for any consumer of Galloway's articles, books, or podcasts: like every person who becomes a master in his field, Galloway is insightful and brilliant when he is operating in that field, and just as clueless as anyone else when operating outside it.
