Foggy accidentally makes an insensitive remark about sight and apologizes, but artwork implies that Matt's retort to this was actually obliquely referring to his double life as Daredevil. The next panel shows what his surroundings as normal where the bumpy-looking walls are actually hundreds of gigantic creatures remaining perfectly still, watching Matt pass.

Required Secondary Powers: Bruiser can shift his center of mass to make himself super-strong or make it difficult for Daredevil to flip him. Through innovative panels showing figures made up of a particular sound to illustrate how Matt “sees” them or through a kind of pop-art version of a street scene where words representing a sound or smell replace objects, they provide the reader with a unique and clever perspective on Daredevil. Unfortunately, as is usually the case with modern comic omnibuses, the makers felt the need to add some unnecessary content. This first omnibus by Waid focuses much more on fast, fun, and shorter paced story arcs with lots of action, taking Matt Murdock back to the classic Stan Lee era instead of the more dark and gritty overlapping longer story arcs from Bendis and Brubaker.Daredevil’s usual nemesis Kingpin is entirely absent from this book, instead the baddies he fights are long-forgotten villains only someone with an encyclopaedic mind of classic comics like Waid could remember and resurrect for his run. With new enemies ( Ikari), new friends ( Kirsten McDuffie) and a "grinnin' in the face of hell" attitude, Mark Waid delivers an Eisner Award-winning DAREDEVIL run like no other! Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne are both incredibly intelligent individuals who use their mental ability to compensate for a lack of "super power". Okay, and I did read it in one go, but not enough to make me love the character (unlike, for example, Kelly Sue’s Captain Marvel or the new elements introduced to the team in Gillon’s Young Avengers, which were also Marvel Now titles). Still, it's a pretty darn good start for a character that I wasn't all that fond of in the beginning.

Matt also gets in serious trouble when he encounters Ikari, an assassin who has the same powerset as him sans blindness. Following a shocking discovery about the Marvel Universe, Daredevil has a weighty decision to make, the results of which will affect his friends and enemies both. This felt like a more retro approach, but given what I have read, I will definitely be following up with Volume 2, as I like the potential, and this was enjoyable on the whole. The entire run has been reprinted in three different editions, the normal trade paperbacks, the two-in-one deluxe HC edition, and the omnibus. Constantly Changing Name: A Running Gag is that Kristie keeps changing the name on the door of the law firm every time it appears. Waid also decides to keep to Brian Michael Bendis’ storyline of Matt Murdock revealing that he’s Daredevil and then tries to retcon it. This is a big meaty collection of fine material, available as both an oversize hardback and a traditional paperback, but Marvel’s marketing slipped by presenting it with almost the same title as a paperback collection that only encompasses the opening half of this content. Everything is done very professionally with this company and always lets you know every step of the process.

This book is good, the art and dialogue is top notch, the book is made/bound well, A+ to Marvel Publishing, the cover under the dust jacket is something to see, really creative. It culminates in him cheerfully crossing the Moral Event Horizon when he makes Foggy Nelson hang himself just to spite Matt. The sewn-binding allows to read the book comfortably with no gutter-loss at all, so you can fully appreciate the wonderful art. Matt and Foggy successfully prove he tried to frame the latter for plagiarism (to get him expelled).The art is truly amazing, mainly featuring the talents of Paolo Rivera and Marcos Martin, as well as Kano, Khoi Pham and Emma Rios. and that same old "grinnin' in the face of hell" attitude, the Man Without Fear is back in action and leading with his face! So far, I'm digging Mark Waid's not-as-grim take on Daredevil since old Hornhead has been through the wringer pretty consistently since the Frank Miller run.
