Disney Sketchy Tales certainly has some rules that are similar to other drawing games, and if you have those you might not feel the need to add it to your collection. However, the theme is going to be loved by a lot of people and makes the resulting pictures even more enjoyable to review at game end (who doesn’t want to see Bambi smashing up a building?). If you’re a Disney fan, this is a solid family-friendly drawing game that you will enjoy. Once everyone has finished their masterpieces, they pass them face down to the player on their left. Everyone looks at the new drawing in front of them, takes a blank Sketchy Card and clips it over the illustration. They write down in words what the drawing was about, who was in it and what they were doing. Once you’ve done that, pass the boards to the left again. Read the new description before you all. (Don’t look at the drawing underneath it for help!) Now clip a fresh Sketchy Card over the words and draw what you’ve just read. For anyone unfamiliar with Sketchy Tales, the concept is simple: Chinese Whispers meets Pictionary. There’s no down-time in the game because everyone draws and writes descriptions at the same time. So there’s no sitting around and waiting for your turn, because there aren’t any “turns”. So when we heard about Sketchy Tales: Disney Edition by Big Potato Games, and thought it seemed a lot like Telestrations, we were happy to give it a go. How does Sketchy Tales compare to Telestrations?

It’s a great game to have on hand in the coming holidays when you’re spending time with family as well because it’s so easy to explain and play. The combinations of what you’ll get to draw are endless. After visiting Disneyland Paris in 2019 the girls are even more into Disney than ever before, so of course I had to include Disney products in this year’s Christmas gift guides! There will be several Disney treats wrapped up under the tree this year for our little girls. However, the game end condition is stated as playing to 2 more points than there are players. Which means if you’re playing with 8 players, the goal is to hit 10 points. And that takes a very long time for one player to get to — which far exceeds the 20 minute game time written on the game box. We found that one round with 8 players takes about 20 minutes to get through all the drawing, passing, revealing stories, laughing, and giving out points. It can take a long time to get a high enough score. Sketchy Tales Disney makes the list of board games like Scrawl because it uses the same Telephone meets drawing and interpreting game mechanic. The core gameplay is the same, but given the more family-friendly, Disney universe nature of this game, the outcomes can be quite different.

It’s amusing to see the way each picture has evolved by the end of the game, and the more iterations the better, making Disney Sketchy Tales a party game that is excellent for large groups. The real draw is this game's accessible yet strategic gameplay, though. Players need to use good teamwork if they're going to avoid being overwhelmed, and making the most of each turn is essential. It's a board game for kids they can really get their teeth into... proverbially, anyway. Evolution has no mention of being eaten whatsoever. Rather than being an oppressive horror story, this apocalypse is fun and breezy instead. Want Halloween board games that won't give your children nightmares? Here you go. Just like Telestrations, this is very much a descendent of the classic game of Telephone. You do the same thing here, instead of miscommunications coming through talking into people’s ear, it happens over drawing and passing. The benefit that the person that starts each drawing has is that they get to look at the drawing of the character on the card they chose. It’s much easier to draw Pumbaa when you can see him on a card vs. just receiving a description that mentions him. Because then you have to pull a visual from your memory on how to draw him.
