I haven't done all of them myself, but the exercises that I did complete helped me bounce back from a particularly nasty bout of health anxiety last Christmas, so I remain eternally grateful to this book. Sometimes OCD makes you really worried about upsetting thoughts, and you might find it difficult to make progress until you have worked on these worries.

Parents will learn how to alleviate their children's anxiety by changing the way they themselves respond to their children's symptoms - importantly, parents are not required to impose changes on their children's behavior. This book is written by people who know their shit and I highly recommend this book to anyone who suffers with OCD or is interested in OCD or wants to understand what someone they love is going through. On top of all that it's also given me a better understanding about what some of the people I know (who might not even have OCD/know they have it or have just not told anyone they have it) are going through and how I can help them. They might be a guardian, carer or counsellor, or another important adult who knows you well and can support you in making changes even when you feel unsure or frightened.Each chapter contains a final section entitles "Advice for Parents or Carers", which is designed to support and guide the "young person" completing the programme.

Dr Heyman and Dr Derisley represented childhood OCD in the NICE Guideline Development Group, and contributed to the written national UK guidelines for the management of OCD. One thing that you may find helpful and interesting to do before you start to fight back against OCD is to complete a brief questionnaire (see the Appendix section).Most of our PDFs are also available to download and we're working on making the final remaining ones downloadable now. I could also visualise how helpful this will be for my families and give them the language to increase their confidence.
