Halloween: A Cut Above The Rest, a documentary about the making of Halloween on disc 2, plus On Location 25 Years Later and trailers, T V and radio spots. In other taped panels, H4 and 5 heroine Ellie Cornell is most likable; cinematographer Dean Cundey is intriguingly technical; and a Michael Myers reunion allows seven of the masked murderer’s alter egos to reveal their favorite kill scenes and recount the various injuries they suffered. The most delightful element of this thing, however, is seeing plenty of vintage stills and 'making of' footage from the shoot, which will be of great interest to any fan.With Zombie preparing his entry for, one presumes, a 2007 release, Halloween’s legacy will obviously extend beyond 25 years (and already has, if you want to nitpick).

Particularly those who enjoy the wave of groundbreaking films from the seventies among which was this first classic monsterpiece that started it all. The buffs’ enthusiasm is celebrated through a look at assorted props and memorabilia, and snippets from numerous tribute videos; among the most amusing are one done in claymation and another in which two actors perform a brief condensed version of the entire series. I have been a fan of Halloween since first seeing it many years ago and being truly scared by what I saw.essentially from H3 onward, in my opinion, I was nevertheless equally intrigued with the stories and info on the later films of the series, which I think speaks to the quality of the show's craft. The documentary proper follows the chronological history of the franchise by way of film clips and interviews with just about anybody who had anything to do with Halloween and its successors, from Carpenter, producer Debra Hill and star Jamie Lee Curtis to a few of the folks behind the unfortunate Halloween: Resurrection, the last release in the series to date. In between the reminiscences both positive and negative, horror heavyweights like Clive Barker and Rob Zombie weigh in on both the first film’s primal appeal and the downslide of quality and substance in its follow-ups. The impetus is a Halloween convention held in South Pasadena (site of the original filming), from which a considerable amount of footage is drawn. Also quite fascinating was the coverage of fans and the activities attending the first Halloween convention in 2003.

Sending the stage appearances off on a high note, Akkad and Yablans appear together, fielding audience ideas for the ninth film, going into detail on the ’78 film’s origins and giving both their fellow Halloween creators and the franchise’s devotees due appreciation.Not just covering the production stories, or the fan base, or some other aspect exclusively -- but it's really a full-orbit "all-things-Halloween" documentary. gg/4tptCsJ - which offers a friendly community to chat with as well as the screenplays for Released and Unreleased Halloween movies.

Theres documentaries about the making of all the movies, loads of convention interviews with the cast and crew, tours around haddonfield, info on the halloween gathering that most of the dvd info comes from, merchandise, fans of the films and loads more. It truly stands at the head of a long list of films that tried to copy, but ultimately didn't quite achieve the standard. Video evidence, obtained from official surveillance cameras installed by the states themselves, confirms the geotracking evidence.For the casual fan or the uninitiated, it’s a thorough primer on how a simple idea from the mind of executive producer Irwin Yablans spawned an enduring horror legend (and, eventually, cash cow). Topics discussed include the logistics of shooting certain scenes - like that now legendary opening set piece, the challenge of making various California locations, in the spring, look like the Midwest in the autumn, the hiring of key players Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis, Carpenter's composition of his now iconic score, and the incredible legacy of the movie - not just its own succession of sequels (some of which get mentioned briefly) but the onslaught of slasher movies to come, with some of those choosing to centre around a national holiday as well. But the first disc isn’t done yet, as a host of additional interview snippets shed more light on assorted side topics. If they haven't already seen 'A Cut Above the Rest', they should either pick up the 25th anniversary two disc DVD release or the more recent Blu- ray to check it out; they won't be disappointed. However, those more familiar with the Halloween chronicles may find that, regrettably but inevitably, the most interesting material on view accentuates the negative.
