About this deal

These two images were shot in the small town of Silverton, Oregon where we stayed during the Tulip Festival. Second, I would imagine that it’s more efficient to produce a single sheet of film and cut it into a large variety of formats than to manufacture multiple film speeds on separate machines (as they did in 1989-1991). A good choice, in my opinion, as in full daylight , this ISO works with 𝒇8/500 — a combination that can yield sharper images on most film cameras. For this Kodak Ektar 100 review, I loaded up my trusty Nikon F3 and took a road trip to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival in Woodburn, Oregon.

For me it made sense as I don't have a lot of experience with different colour films, and I wanted to see the difference when used in similar conditions.

Whereas my slide film made the beautiful powder look like washed-out blobs of white , Ektar’s fantastic ability to tolerate overexposure ensured that the delicate snow textures are visible while still looking bright. At Ag we have a very tightly controlled C41 processing line that will deliver superb results from Kodak Ektar.

If you take a closer look at the sky portion of the image, you’ll see what the courser grain looks like.

As you can see, this film can be very versatile as you learn to recognize the lighting conditions and use it to your advantage. I can see portra as a natural skin tone film whereas Ektar works well as an alternative to higher saturation slide films; I’m expecting higher dynamic range. I eventually sought an affordable, professional quality film with the characteristics I love – fine grain, saturated colors.

Plenty of light in this shot; I had no trouble scanning it and there are no colour corrections applied to this image. So if you get a bunch of it today, you are almost certainly going to pay less for it than a year later. Being a medium/low speed film, I was first enticed by the idea of low grain, accompanied by the claims of sharp, vibrant images.This rings true on the street, and when combined with warm tones and metering for the highlights in a Chiaroscuro fashion, it gives me a great "classic" look that I often look for in my street photography.
